Can Weight Affect Your Attitude?

Can your weight affect your attitude? The answer is yes. If you are overweight, your weight can (not will) affect your overall attitude. Here are a couple of reasons why?
• Pain tends to make people quick tempered. If you’re overweight and have bad knees, a bad hip, you have a bad back. The pain could be making you quick tempered.
• When you can’t do something or have a harder time doing it because you are overweight, frustration can set in affecting your attitude.
• At times your weight could cause you to be self conscious affecting your attitude.

Go for a Walk

When I was at an office the other day, the owner of the business told me that she would be back in an hour. She proceeded to tell me that she was going for her daily walk with her 14-year-old son. She told me that her son told her that she needed to lose some weight and said he would walk with her every day. She said, “How could I refuse an offer like that.” Wow! I was very impressed. Here it took a 14-year-old child to get this woman to exercise. It was the fact that her son wanted it for her and would spend quality time with her set the ball in motion for her doing something about her weight. So, for all you kids out there, no matter your age, take your parents for a walk. They want to spend quality time with you. Who knows, they may even lose weight, get fitter, and live longer.

If we want to lose weight, we need to have the fire within us to do it. Our motivation must be strong. We must be passionate about it. As the expression goes, we must have the fire in our belly to do it.

When we are on fire nothing or no one can stop us. When we are on fire, we are focused on getting results. We do what we know that we need to do to make it happen. Making the right choices is the only option.

When we are on fire to drop some weight, it means that we are determined until we hit our goal and then remain determined to keep it off.

Get Discouraged While Trying to Lose Weight?

Don’t get discouraged if your weight loss is not going as fast as you would like. Weight loss takes time. It also takes life-long change. This change can make us both look and feel better. However, changing poor habits does take time, energy, and determination. The results of succeeding at changing poor eating and exercising habits are nothing to be discouraged about. The future results that we envision should get us excited about the future not discourage us.

Discouragement is usually the result of being short sighted. It is the result of concentrating on the process and not the final results (the thinner you). If we want not to get discouraged during the weight loss process let’s focus on the future. Let’s do what we need to do to lose weight and still feel good about what we are doing, and let’s get it done.

Weight Loss By Another Name

Weight loss by any other name will still result in a thinner you. I hear so-called weight loss experts say to me. “I never use the words weight loss. I use weight management.” I like to respond that you lose the weight first then you manage your new weight. You say 12, I say a dozen. The results are the same.

However, I know why they do it and enjoy yanking their chains anyway. The reason they do it is because of the emotions that are attached to weight loss. Whenever I mention the words’ weight loss, I see, fear. It makes people feel uneasy. That is actually good. That is because change of any kind is uneasy for people, and they fear it.

However, weight loss does not have to be painful. Weight loss does not have to be scary. It is made that way by people that don’t want to lose weight, so they make excuse, and turn weight loss into the big bad wolf.

Over the years, I have helped many people lose weight that afterwards have said that losing weight is not that bad. Weight loss is not scary, don’t make it that way. It is not the ghost in your basement. Call it what you want, let’s start the process, let’s get the weight off, and let’s keep it off for a lifetime.

Weight Loss Gratification | Reduce Your Weight

I have said in the past that you need to delay gratification if you want to lose weight. The correct phrasing of this is that you need to change your gratifications if you want to lose weight. Let me explain.

Delaying gratification means giving up your favorite foods for a while, then you eventually go back to eating them.

I say that we should change our gratifications. Let’s not give up our favorite foods, however, let’s cutback in both frequency and portion sizes. Let’s change our gratification to future gratification. Let’s change our gratification to the gratification we will get when we are thinner and fitter. Let’s concentrate on how we will feel when we are thinner. Let’s concentrate on how good we will look when we are leaner. Let’s concentrate on the gratification we will get being able to do things easier than when we were heavier. Let’s throw out the old gratification of food and replace it with the new gratification of being thinner and let’s get it done.

Weight Loss Exercise

Weight loss is about taking in less calories than you burn. This means that you can either eat less or exercise more. If you are like I was you will need to do both if you want to lose weight.

I have found that exercise has many benefits:

  • It helps tone you up
  • Build’s strengths
  • Burns calories
  • Increases your metabolism
  • Gives you more energy
  • Exercise is a great way to give your weight loss a boost. The key is to find one that you like and keep doing it. Exercise is not just about short-term success. It is about long-term success, and to have long-term success at exercising you need to do it long term. How do you do it long term? Do an exercise that you enjoy, so that you want to do it regularly.

    The take off from this post is that if you want weight loss, exercise regularly with an exercise that you enjoy.

    Weight Loss Results

    When someone first starts the weight loss process, their initial thought is “show me the weight loss!” Results are what they want, and they want them fast. This was my thinking. I thought I would lose weight because I wanted to not because of what I did. I wanted to do the minimum and get the maximum results. I was taught quickly that it doesn’t work that way.

    If we want results, we need to earn it. We need to work at it. Weight loss results are given to the people that earn it. Cheating is not an option.

    Let’s decide that we WILL lose weight. Let’s get determined to do it. Let’s do what it takes to earn it, and let’s get it done.
