Even the Elf on the Shelf likes to exercise
If we want to live a longer and healthier life we need to add exercise into our daily routine. Even Alfonso the Elf on the Shelf knows this. Two mornings in a row, we caught him exercising. Alfonso realizes that exercise=mobility. Alfonzo the Elf on the Shelf stays thin because he exercises and is very active.

Exercise and physical activity can keep your muscles strong, bones strong, keep you flexible, and keep you young.

The holiday season can be busy. However, that is no excuse to skip exercising. It is no excuse to skip something that will help you live longer and healthier. Remember, a healthy holiday is a happier holiday.

Take the lead from Alfonzo and let’s make sure we exercise over the holidays.

What are the Thin People Thinking

One of the best ways to lose weight is to think like a thin person. When I was overweight and went to a restaurant that served large portions, I would make it a point to clean my plate. Now that I am thin. I will come home with food. When I was overweight, I would eat a bowl of ice cream everyday. Now that I am thin I eat one scoop of ice cream every week or two. When I was overweight, I did not exercise regularly. Now that I am thin, I exercise on a regular basis.

Developing healthy habits requires that we think like a thin person. Developing healthy habits requires that we start thinking about the habits that thin people have and then adopt them. It is about thinking and then doing what thin people do. At that point, you will become thin. You just need to think thin to become thin.

Manage Your Weight Over the Holidays

The holidays are quickly approaching. Holidays that are filled with lots of foods and drink everywhere. During this time, it is easy to say to yourself, “Don’t worry about the holidays, I will lose weight after the first of the year.” Most overweight people don’t want to hear what I am about to say next. However, it is important, and has to be said.

This is a poor attitude, and although you may have good intensions, it does not show commitment, or a strong desire to lose weight. Losing weight requires a strong desire to lose weight. A strong desire to lose weight does not put it off. People with a strong desire to lose weight turn losing weight into an emergency and starts the process now, not after they have pigged out for over a month.

The reason I see that some people want to wait until after the first of the year is that they feel that they deserve to over eat during the holidays. They feel that if they watch what they eat over the holidays, they will not be able to enjoy the holidays. Whether you want to believe it or not, you can enjoy the holidays without eating everything in sight.

Additionally, let’s say you lose the weight after the first of the year because you want to “enjoy the holidays,” what are you going to do next year after you lose the weight? Are you going to pig out, gain weight, and enjoy the holidays? If we are going to lose weight and keep it off, at some point we will need to start going through the holidays without losing control. Therefore, if you are serious about losing weight and not just trying to make yourself feel better about pigging out, then let’s start now, and let’s get a head start heading into the first of the year.

Is It Possible for Me to Lose Weight?

The answer for me is “yes,” but many people prefer the answer of “no.”

The easy thing to do is to be content with what you’ve been given, and dealt with. When we accept this, the responsibility for our weight disappears because it is not our fault.

I meet people who are eagerly willing to tell me that they can’t lose weight because of this or that. However, when I ask them what activities they are currently doing towards losing weight, I get excuses for lack of activity.

Most of the time it is fear that is the driving force here. If you accept the status quo, then you never have to face the fear of change and the fear of failure. However, you miss the opportunity for success. You miss the opportunity for a healthier life. You miss the opportunity to feel and look better.

Losing weight is a choice. Additionally, staying overweight is a choice. However, if you choose to stay overweight you are choosing to have poor health in the future.

Do it for yourself. Do it for your family. Just make the healthy choice and do it. It is possible to lose weight.

I Am Not a Health Nut and I Lost Weight

Most people I talk to believe that you need to become a health nut in order to lose weight. This is far from the truth.

In order to lose weight you need to start eating healthier. In order to lose weight you need to eat smaller portions. However, you don’t need to become a health nut. You also don’t need to stop eating the foods you love. However, you do need to pay attention to your portion sizes.

If losing weight is making you miserable, you are doing it wrong. Remember, losing weight is not about becoming a health nut. It is about switching some of the fattening and unhealthy foods you eat with healthier ones, part of the time, so that overall the calories you take in, are less than the calories you burn. When you reach this balance, you will succeed at losing weight and keeping it off.

Therefore, you don’t have to be a health nut, to lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime, you just need to have balance.

Interested in Losing Weight or Passionate About It?

People are always telling me that they are interested in losing weight. However, what they don’t tell me is that they are passionate about it. There is a difference between interest and passion. Interest is lukewarm while passion is hot. Interest is casual while passion is determined.

Think of it this way. There are a lot of things that I am interested in doing. How many do I actually do? I usually don’t do things that I am only interested in. Like most people, I only do things that I am really passionate about. That is the difference between starting and not starting. It is the difference between success and failure at losing weight.

Get passionate about losing weight and succeed. Remember, just being interested is just not enough.

One of the best ways to lose weight is to get the right motivation. This can be done by asking yourself,”What do I want out of life?” After you do this, make a list of your answers. Rank your answers and then ask yourself how being thinner would benefit what you just wrote down. This is one of the many techniques you can use to develop your motivation. You may find that getting thinner can help you get and keep what you desire out of life.

I feel that anyone can lose weight if they choose to. They just need to want it bad enough. When deciding whether to lose weight most people question their ability doing it. They question whether they are too old. They question their willpower. They question their determination. They lack confidence in themselves.

If you are one of these people, you can lose weight. You can become thinner. The question is: How bad do you want it? Your success in losing weight is proportional your desire to do it. Little or no desire will result in little or no success. Strong desire will result in big success.

Therefore, if you want to lose weight, get a strong desire to do it. You can lose weight. How bad do you want it?

What Are You Missing by not Getting in Shape

What are your feelings about getting in shape? Some people I observe include it as a way of life. Others avoid it like the plague. I include it as a way of life, however, I am not fanatical about it.

As I was out for one or my sunrise jogs along Lake St. Clair (see photo), I stopped for a minute, to take in the beautiful sunrise. It struck me that only a small group of people are seeing it. The people that are seeing it are the people have to get to work early and the people that are getting or staying in shape.

Everyone else is missing this. This prompted me to ask a question. The question is, “What are you missing by not getting in shape?” Is it a beautiful sunrise? Is it the ability to do certain activities with your kids? Is it not being able to walk up the stairs without breathing hard? What are you missing by not getting in shape?

The answer to this question may create the motivation you need to start exercising regularly. Think about it.
