We Have To Work At It To Lose Weight

Shedding weight is just not about wanting to do it, and then it happens by magic. If we want to shed weight, we have to work at it. We have to put the resources of time and energy into making it happen. We have to keep at it until we succeed.

Where we fail at losing weight is when we are afraid to do what we need to do to make it happen. When we look at the effort involved in losing weight, decide that it’s more than we want to do, and then make excuses why we can’t do it.

Most things that are truly worth having are things that we work for. Therefore, let’s work at losing weight and let’s get started today.

Many people I speak with tell me that they can’t lose weight. When I ask them why that is, they give me a list of excuses that they have memorized for just such an occasion. The truth is that if you want to lose weight, you must be committed to doing it. Committed people don’t give excuses why they can’t. They give reasons why they will. Committed people don’t talk about losing weight. They do it. People committed to losing weight are positive about the process.

Truly committed people don’t stop until they achieve weight loss. Are you committed to losing weight or are you not? Are you totally committed to to Losing Weight or are you going through the motions? You decide.

The Status Quo of Your Weight

Many people I talk to daily would rather accept the status quo of their weight rather than to work on becoming thinner. They would rather take high blood pressure medication than lose weight. They would rather take insulin than lose weight. They are willing to accept the status quo of poor health. They are accepting future pain, because they just don’t want to lose weight.

People think losing weight is hard. Losing weight is as hard as you make it. It is your attitude toward weight loss that will determine your success or failure. If your attitude is right, you will do what you need to do to succeed. If your attitude is bad, you will whine and complain every step of the way, and you will fail.

Therefore, get a good attitude towards weight loss, reject the status quo, and look forward to a healthier future. It starts today.

Grab one thing and dig in – Weight Loss Motivation

Weight Loss Motivation

Losing weight is about motivation. It is about having a strong motivation to do it. This means grabbing onto at least one thing and digging in. It means grabbing one strong and emotional reason for losing weight and using it to drive you to weight-loss success. As I just mentioned it must be a strong and emotional reason. It must also be a long term reason. For example, losing weight for a wedding might be a great reason for losing weight. However, what happens when the wedding is over? The weight usually returns, sometimes with interest. Why is that? When the motivation is over, so is the intense drive to do what is takes to keep it off. At this point, you start slacking, and the weight slowly returns. It is not that you decide to gain the weight back. You just fall into the old bad habits and don’t monitor your weight. Additionally, you lose the intense focus that helped you to lose the weight.

Therefore, it is important that you always have a strong motivation and a strong reason for losing weight because anything less usually doesn’t work.

How To Make The Weight Loss Difference

Weight Loss Difference

The difference between losing weight and not losing weight is what you are willing to do to make it happen. This difference is determined by the motivation you have to make it happen. The stronger your motivation, the stronger and more powerful actions you will be willing to take. People that succeed at losing weight have a strong motivation to make it happen. Having the right motivation is the number-one key to all long-term weight loss success.

Are you having trouble losing weight? What’s your motivation? You may just need a stronger one.

A strong motivation can be developed. A strong motivation will be different for everyone. However, if you want long-term weight loss, you will need to develop your long term motivation.

Delay Your Gratification – Weight Loss Delayed Gratification

Weight Loss Delayed Gratification

Losing weight is not about eating everything you want, any time you want it, in any quantities you want. It is about delaying gratification now for what you will get later. Delay gratification is about trade-offs. Delayed gratification is trading what you want now for what you will get later (ie. a leaner body, better mobility, etc….). It does not mean that you have to give everything up and become a health nut. However, you will need to cut back, and at times pass on a few things.

Delayed gratification is not about willpower. It is about wanting something more than you want that extra food. It is about having a strong enough reason that makes the daily temptations less tempting. Delay gratification lets you know that you are winning the weight loss battle. When you can delay gratification, you are in command of your body, not the other way around.

Weight loss and delayed gratification go hand in hand. Therefore, if you can delay gratification, you can lose weight.

Talk Weight Loss : Weight Loss Talk

After I first lost weight (over seven years ago) I walked into an office of a computer client of mine. A women working in the office asked me to sit down and proceeded to question me on how I lost so much weight. I looked around and noticed that she had a large stack of weight loss books on her credenza.

I wondered why she was asking me how I lost weight when she had so many books that would teach her. Then I realized that something was missing from all these books. I realized that these books taught people a variety of techniques of how to diet. However, I also realized that I lost weight not by what did but how I thought.

Do you think thin thoughts or overweight thoughts? Do you make thin choices or overweight choices? The daily decisions you make will determine your weight-loss success or failure. Every decision you make will either make you thinner or keep you overweight. Weight loss is not about doing this or not doing that. Weight loss is about how you think. It is about having a positive attitude towards weight loss and exercise. It is about wanting to do what it takes to take the weight off. It is about wanting changes in your life that being thinner can bring. If you can get your head in the weight loss game you will lose weight.

Let’s talk weight loss. Let’s take weight loss actions. Let’s think the right thoughts. Let’s make the right choices, and let’s get it done.

Habits of a Thin Person : Healthy Habits

Losing weight is about developing healthy habits. It is also about developing habits of a thin person. When you develop habits of a thin person, you will have a thin person’s results.

Below are a few of the habits of thin people that you can adopt:
Move it and lose it – Get more active. Sitting does not burn many calories.
Don’t go up for seconds at mealtime
Exercise regularly
Eat smaller portions
Eat more fruit and vegetables
Reduce sugary soda intake
Reduce alcohol consumption
Reduce your sweet consumption

If you can start doing the things above regularly, you will start to develop the habits and results of a thin person.

Those Who Lose Weight

Those who lose weight do things that those who don’t lose weight can, but refuse to do. Many times I hear people say, “I can’t do that.” However, it is not that they can’t do it, but rather they don’t want to do it. They just don’t want to lose weight bad enough. They have the talk that they want to lose weight. However, they also don’t want to do anything to get there. It’s like saying that I want to go on vacation, but I do want to go in a plane, train, boat, or automobile. It’s just not going to happen. It’s just talk. Nothing happens with talk. It takes action. People that make weight loss happen, do it. They just don’t talk about it. They make it happen. They don’t complain about it. They do it. They don’t say, “I can’t do that.” They say, “I can and will do it.”

When you say you can’t do it, usually you won’t, because you gave up before you even got started. Losing weight is not about all the things you can’t do. It’s about all the things you don’t want to do anymore, so that you can do the things you want to and need to do.

Do the things that those that lose weight do and let’s get it done.

Losing weight is about being a student. It is about learning. It is about learning what works and what doesn’t. It is about learning what exercises you enjoy doing. It is about learning what foods you should eat and in what portions. Weight loss is a journey. It’s an education, and you are the student. During the weight loss process, you will learn about your body and how you burn calories. You will make mistakes and learn from them. Mistakes are part of the weight loss process. That why I like to call weight loss mistakes, learning opportunities.

Therefore, if you want to lose weight, you need to become a student of weight loss.
