As Americans we are constantly bombarded with ads. We are bombarded by fast food ads, junk food ads, sugary food ads, and fatty food ads. Everywhere we turn they are there. The ads attack our kids, trying to get them to develop bad eating habits at a young age. If you don’t believe me just watch the commercials on Saturday mornings.
However, you can resist them. You have the power within you. If that doesn’t work, find a hobby to do during the commercials. Find an exercise to do during commercials. Play on your tablet or phone. Find something to occupy your mind.
As far as your kids go, you control what you buy and what they eat. You can also set the example for them as they look to you as their role model. Make sure what they are learning is good.
Remember, resistance is not futile. If you can resist them you can shed weight.

Have you tried to lose weight in the past? Has your commitment to lose weight in the past been a little light? If you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to make the decision to lose weight. However, more importantly you have to make the decision once, and once only to lose weight.
Making the decision once means. Having a total commitment to dropping weight means you will do it. There is no try. It means obstacles may slow you down, but they will not stop you. It means failure is not an option. It means having a strong motivation that will carry you through the ups and downs of the weight-loss process. It means having your head in the weight-loss game.
Make one decision to lose weight. Make it your last decision to lose weight and let’s get it done.

Are You Ready To Lose Weight? Let’s Get Going.

A lot of people tell me that they are ready to lose weight. They tell me that they are going to do it. They tell me that nothing can stop them. However, they don’t lose weight, and they don’t even start. They are all talk and no action. They are all words and no work. When I question them later, all they have are excuses. Are you one of these people? When I was in the weight-loss process, I told very few people. Losing weight was personal for me. I wanted to show people by my results not my words. I thought it was more important that I was more action than talk. Therefore, I just made the decision and did it. It was challenging at times. I had my ups and downs. However, I did not quit.
I set out to drop 30 pounds and stopped when I lost 50. When I truly understood what need to be done it got easier. When I got into the weight-loss groove the weight came off fast. When I learned what I needed to do and what not to do, the weight melted off. It was personal. It got emotional, and it got done. ARE YOU READY TO LOSE WEIGHT? Don’t tell me. SHOW ME!

Don’t Set Yourself Up For Weight Loss Failure

People go on and off diets all the time. The problem is that diets just don’t work. If you want to lose weight, you need to be fully committed to the task. However, a total shock to your habits usually leads to weight loss failure. Giving up your favorite foods will torture you to the point that you will go on a binge.
When I first decided to lose weight, I went from one extreme to the other. After a few days of driving myself crazy, I decided I needed to do something different. Although I was losing weight, I knew I would not be able to do what I was doing long term, which was eating less and giving up all the foods I love. I decided that if I was going to lose weight and more importantly keep it off, I was going to have to find a way to have a more balanced approach. An approach where I could enjoy the foods I love and still lose weight. Only then, I would be willing to do it long term. I need to create an approach that was just for me, not a one size fit all approach. It took some experimenting, but I found that balance so that I could lose 50 pounds and keep it off for seven years now. It is a balance of eating healthy foods most of the time yet not depriving myself of my favorite foods. I just watch the portion sizes when eating my favorite foods. This approach has worked for me and is crucial for anyone wanting to lose weight and keep it off. The key word, here is “balance.” Understanding and being able to apply it to your life is the key.
Therefore, forget diets and add balance and moderation to your life and you will succeed at losing weight and keeping it off for a lifetime.

Many people have a lot of misconceptions about weight loss. One of the misconceptions is that we have to starve ourselves to lose weight. This is not accurate. We need to lower our calorie intake, but that does not mean starvation. We need to eat healthier foods that have lower calories. That does not mean starving ourselves. We have to exercise more, but we don’t have to starve ourselves. Losing weight is about balance not starvation. It is about balancing the foods we love in proper portions with healthy low calorie foods, so that we can lose weight.
When I lost 50 pounds, I never felt that I starved myself. I never thought that I deprived myself. That was my secret to weight-loss success it can also be yours. It is all about creating the right balance.

Your Opportunity To Shed Weight

I always hear people tell me, “I have to lose weight.” I like to tell them, “No, you get to lose weight.” There’s a difference.
“Have to” lose weight has a negative tone. It implies you don’t want to shed weight. It also implies you are doing it kicking and screaming. You won’t have long-term success at losing weight if you “have to” lose it.
When you “Get to” lose weight you’re implying that you’re looking forward to it. If you want weight-loss success you need to look forward to losing weight. You should look forward to looking and feeling better. You should look forward to better mobility. You should look forward to a healthier future. Therefore, look at shedding weight as an opportunity not a chore, and you will lose the weight you desire and keep it off of the long term.

Change Our Attitude and Drop Weight

One of the things that we need to do if we want to lose weight is to change our attitude. We need to change our attitude towards food, exercise, and the weight loss process. If we are sitting there asking what that means, let me explain.
If we hate to exercise, we won’t do it long term. If weight loss means starvation and having to give up our favorite food, who is going to want to do that? I am not. That is a few of the attitudes that we need to change if we want to lose weight.
Like I always say, losing weight is not about dieting and not about exercise, it is about changing our thinking and our attitudes.
I like to exercise. I look forward to it. It is my time. It releases the stress of the day. When I am done exercising I am relaxed and have a clear mind. Who do we think will exercise regularly and do it long term? Someone who likes to exercise or someone who hates to do it? Someone who likes to exercise, will do it long term. Change that bad attitude, change that poor thinking, and we will exercise regularly and for the long term. If we don’t we won’t. It is as simple as that.
Therefore, if we want to drop weight, then we need to drop the bad attitude.

What Are Your Excuses For Not Losing Weight?

Everyday people tell me reasons for not losing weight. What I am hearing are not reasons but excuses. People feel that if they have a good enough reason (excuse) it makes it okay for not losing weight. They feel that it justifies doing nothing because they came up with a good excuse.
What they’re denying is the fact that their health does not care about their excuses. High blood pressure does not care if they don’t have time to exercise. Diabetes does not care if they don’t like to cook. A heart attack does not care if being overweight is hereditary. Weight-loss excuses will rob them of a healthy future if they let it. Weight-loss excuses are the enemy of weight loss. If you want to lose weight you need to get rid of your excuses for not losing weight and find reasons to lose weight. Take all your excuses one by one and turn them into reasons for losing the weight, and you will be on your way to weight-loss success.

Weight Loss – It Does Not Matter What You Call It. The End Result Is The Same
May 1st, 2013It is funny that there are many terms we give to the act of losing weight. Yes, they may have a slight difference in meaning; however, the result is the same. You weigh less. Here are a few that come to mind.
As you can see there are many terms (and more I did not list) to describe basically the same thing (yes there are small differences between them). However, there is only one way to achieve them. Take in fewer calories than you burn. So let’s start today.
