Dream to Shed Weight

June 17th, 2013

Shed Weight

Before we can lose weight, we must get motivated to do it. Motivation usually starts with a dream. It can be a dream of feeling better. It can be a dream of looking better. It can be a dream of being healthier. It can be a dream of living longer. It starts with a dream. If we can dare to dream of our weight loss possibilities, we can shed weight.

A dream is a great place to start. However, we need to follow it up with positive action. We also need to get the courage up to start the process. A dream without starting is just a dream. A dream with positive action is a dream come true. We also need to set a goal. A goal will help keep you on track for attaining your weight-loss dream. Therefore, set many weight-loss goals. Set short term weight-loss goals and long-term weight-loss goals. Remember that the attaining of incremental short-term goals will allow you to reach your long-term goal.

However, it all starts with a weight loss dream. Dream a dream of a thinner you, and let’s get started.

Mistakes Should Not Keep Us From Losing Weight

June 12th, 2013

Weight Loss Mistakes | Weight Loss Education

Losing weight is about education. It is about learning what we can eat, and in what quantities we can eat them in. During this process, we will misjudge it at times. We will mess up. We will make mistakes. It is natural and part of the process. We are human. We make mistakes.
It is also natural that we get disappointed when this happens. However, how we deal with this disappointment is important. Do we quit or does it piss us off and make us more determined? This will determine whether we succeed or fail at losing weight. Have the wrong attitude and we will fail. Feel sorry for ourselves and we will stay where we are at. Have the right attitude and we will be a weight loss winner.

Mistakes are tests. They happen to see if we deserve to be thinner. If we do not wavier in our determination to lose weight, we will win.

When I was in the weight loss process, I made lots of mistakes. I let myself get discouraged for five minutes. I then thought hard about what I did wrong and how I could avoid doing it in the future. I would then take that knowledge and move forward. The accumulation of all the mistakes, and the knowledge I gained from them, helped me to reach my weight loss goal. It has also allowed me to keep the weight off.

Weight-loss mistakes are good. However, they are only good if we learn from them.

Hate to Exercise, Think Again

June 10th, 2013

Hate to Exercise

One of the changes that we need to make if we want to lose weight is that we are going to have to change our attitude towards exercise. It is my experience that some people just hate to exercise. It is that attitude that needs to change if they want to lose weight. Hate is an attitude. Hate is a mindset. It is that mindset that has to change if they want to lose weight.

If you are one of those people that hate to exercise; the key to changing that mind-set is to find an exercise that you enjoy. Exercise does not have to be painful. Exercise can be fun. You don’t have to sweat when exercising. It can be as simple or as easy as going for a walk. It can be as easy as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. It can be playing with your children or grandchildren. It can be going for a bike ride. Walk around the zoo. It can be doing some gardening. Work on a home repair project. My wife takes her Kindle, gets on the elliptical machine, works-out and reads a book for a half-hour a day.

Exercise can be fun if you make it that way. You will only make it that way if you truly want to. It is all up to you.

Should You Skip Meals to Shed Pounds?

June 7th, 2013

People tell me all the time that they can’t lose weight. They tell me that me that they don’t eat much yet they can’t shed pounds. There are two possible answers for this. Either they are eating more than they believe they are or they aren’t eating enough.

There is a balance of eating enough to lose weight and not eating enough that sends your body into a starvation mode. In starvation mode you actually store fat. Your body realizes that you aren’t eating. It lowers your metabolism and causes you to burn calories at a lower rate. That is the opposite results you desire if you want to shed weight.

If you want to shed pounds you need to eat at regular times. If you only eat one meal a day or even two, your metabolism will slow down. This will give you the opposite results of what you want. Therefore you need to eat. Skipping breakfast is not an option if you want to lose weight. However, you don’t need to eat a lot and you should eat healthy at least two of your meals.

There is a balance between not eating enough to lose weight and eating too much. Have the right balance and you will lose weight for a lifetime. Have the wrong balance and you will remain overweight or even gain weight.

Instead of skipping breakfast and or lunch, eat a light healthy breakfast and a light healthy lunch. And watch your weight melt off.

Is Your Environment Keeping You From Losing Weight?

June 5th, 2013

Your environment can be an obstacle in losing weight, but can it actually keep you from losing weight? My answer to this is that if you truly want to lose weight, and your motivation is strong. Nothing will stop you. Obstacles are things that get in the way. They are there to cause the week to fail. The strong will prevail, if they choose to prevail.

It doesn’t matter if it is hard to go for a walk, because your subdivision does not have sidewalks. The weight loss winners will find a way to get a treadmill or an elliptical machine. It is a minor inconvenience but not a show stopper.

Don’t live near a place that has fresh fruit and vegetables? Find a way to get to a market every other week and buy fruits and vegetables that will last two weeks. Where there is a will, there is a way.

If you use your obstacles as excuses not to lose weight, be honest with yourself and admit that you never really wanted to lose it.

Remember, obstacles don’t stop the committed. However, they do stop the uncommitted. Therefore, become committed to your weight loss goal, and you will succeed.

Set a Weight Loss Goal and Get Started

June 3rd, 2013

Set a Weight Loss Goal

If we want to lose weight, we need to set a weight loss goal. Why do we need to set a goal you may be asking? We need to set a goal, so we know when we have succeeded. We need to set a goal because it will help motivate us and keep us on track. Weight-loss goals are good, if we truly want to lose weight. The key is to have a big goal. We need to picture our optimum weight. The weight we would love to be, and then picture a weight we feel we can reach. We then need to go after the attainable goal with the knowledge that when we reach the attainable goal, we will go after the one that seams out of reach at the moment.

The next step is to pick a date for reaching our goal. This will help keep us on our toes. After we pick our goal weight and goal date, we need to break it down into smaller goals and shorter dates. What weight do we need to be a week henceforth, and the week after that, and so on if we want to hit our goal. This will give us guidance and encouragement all the way.

Reaching small cumulative goals along the way is the best way to keep motivated and stay on track.

Weight loss can be easy if you make it that way and setting a goal is a great place to start.

A Few Weight Loss Myths

May 31st, 2013

One myth is that once you lose weight it is easy to keep it off. This is both true and false. It is easy to keep it off if you continue to do what you did to get there. Most people lose weight just to gain it back because once they get there, they lose their focus. If you want to keep the weight off after you lose it, you need to continue to maintain your focus. If you lose your focus, your old habits will creep back slowly causing you to gain the back. Maintaining your weight is easy as long as you realize the battle is not over. Additionally, there is the education factor to consider. If you have learned a balanced eating approach (learning what you can eat and in what quantities), you can easily maintain your weight after losing it.

Another myth is that you have to give up carbs in order to lose weight. This is false. You may need to reduce your carb intake in order to lose weight. However, you don’t need to eliminate them. Eliminating carbs can cause you to crave them more. This will do nothing but drive you crazy until you give in and binge. This is not a good idea. Eat the carbs you desire, just watch your portions.

There are many myths out there about weight loss. However, the last myth I want to discuss today is that, you should not set a large weight loss goal. This is false. The premise of this is that if the goal is too large, you will think it is unattainable, and you will quit. I think you need a large goal. However, you need to break the large goal into smaller goals that are easier to reach. This will allow you to reach smaller goals. As these smaller goals add up, you will move towards the larger goal. You don’t need to compromise your ideal weight. However, there is no reason not have smaller victories along the way.

Large Portions Means Large Weight Gain

May 29th, 2013

Reduce Your Portions and Reduct Your Weight

This should be something that everyone should know. However, since so many people have a problem with this idea, I want to reinforce this fact. Your portions will help determine your weight. The larger your portion sizes, the larger your weight will be. The smaller the portions sizes you eat, the smaller your weight will be. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, reduce your portion sizes.

As I mentioned above, this should be common sense. However, it is ignored by the large segment of the population that is overweight. How can you overcome this obstacle?

  • Whether you eat at home or at a restaurant, pack part of your meal away for another future meal.
  • Eat a small healthy snack a half-hour before your meal so that you spoil your appetite and eat less.
  • Eat half of what you would usually eat, wait 20 minutes, and if you are still hungry eat a little more.
  • If you can reduce your portions, you will be able to reduce your weight.

Does Your Work Schedule Keep You From Losing Weight?

    May 24th, 2013

People tell me all the time that they can’t lose weight because of their work schedule. This reason is nothing but an excuse in disguise. Losing weight is about calories in versus calories out. If you say you don’t have time to exercise, quit putting so much food in your mouth. It is as simple as that. There are a few things that you can do lose weight if you truly desire:

  • Quit saying that you can’t lose weight and start figuring how.
  • Get up 45 minutes earlier in the morning and exercise before work
  • Use your wind-down time at the end of the evening to exercise and de-stress
  • Pack a healthy light lunch instead of going to the fast-food restaurant for lunch Look for opportunities to burn calories during the day
    • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
    • Walk into someone’s office instead of calling them
    • Take a walk at lunch time

There are many things that you can do to lose weight, even if you have a busy work schedule. However, you need to replace your excuses with action and get started.
