I was listening to an old 80’s song the other day titled, “Shattered Dreams.” I had not heard this song in many years, however, this time a line in the song stuck in my head, “Woke up to reality and found the future not so bright.” Many years ago I looked in the mirror and thought that the future was not so bright with respect to my health. Although I was healthy, I saw the future. I saw painful joints, I saw high blood pressure, I saw diabetes, I saw a heart attack in my future, and it scared me. I saw my kids growing up without a father and it upset me. I also saw that since I was in good health, I could change the future that I saw. That made me motivated.

How to Overcome the Fear of Losing Weight

To overcome the fear of losing weight start by replacing one bad habit. Make it a small, simple, and easy habit. Replace it with a good habit, have success, get your confidence up, and go to your next habit.

Losing weight does not have to be scary. Losing weight is not about starving yourself. Losing weight can be done gradually. The key is to have a plan on how you are going to do it. The key is to be consistent and persistent with that plan, and the weight will come off.

The only thing that should be scary is what will happen to your health if you don’t start losing weight today.

The Blame Game Will Keep You The Same

Blame is an interesting concept. When people don’t do what they need to do and then don’t get the results they desire, they play the blame game. They blame everyone and everything except themselves. They blame their circumstances, their family, their friends, their gender, and even their age. What they don’t blame is their unwillingness to change their current situation.

It is always easier to blame and do nothing, then it is to take responsibility and change your situation.

If you want to lose weight, you will need to stop playing the blame game and start making it happen.

Many years ago, I wanted to lose weight. The difference was that I had a strong motivation to do it. Losing weight is about motivation. It is about having a strong reason to do it. It is about getting mentally prepared to do it. Losing weight is not about sacrifices but about choices. It is about choosing physical activities over sitting in front of the computer or television. It is not about giving up your favorite foods but about moderation. However, you need to be motivated to push yourself to do it.

The most important part of weight-loss success is your motivation. Therefore, you need to ask yourself, “How bad do I want it, and am I willing to do what it takes?”

Be Consistent

Be Consistent and Lose Weight

One of the hardest things in life is to become consistent with something. However, if we want to lose weight, we will need to be consistent with doing it. We can do this by developing good habits. Habits are things that we do consistently without thinking or sometimes even realizing it. We develop habits by doing something over time. Since bad habits are usually more fun than good habits, we tend to gravitate towards them.

If we want to be consistent with doing things that allow us to lose weight, we need to want to do them. They cannot be considered a chore. They cannot be considered work. They, in reality, should be considered fun. They should be considered a game.

Think about this, when we were a child, exercise was considered as playing so we did it a lot. As adults, we consider exercise as hard work, so we avoid it. Let’s look at exercise as play, and we will want to be consistent with it.

Let’s look at finding healthier, low-calorie, great-tasting foods as a game or a challenge, and we will want to do it consistently.

If we change the way, we look at weight loss, we will work on it consistently and develop long-term habits.
