    Gym Etiquette

    Going to the gym is a great way to lose weight and get fit. However, it can come with its own set of challenges. These challenges come in the form of people either not knowing or not caring about proper gym etiquette. If you what to be respectful to others, here are few things you need to know.

    Cell Phones
    Minimize your cell phone usage at the gym. It is very rude and distracting to hold on a cell phone conversation while on a weight machine. If you have to be on the phone, keep it short and to the point and then get off.

    Re-Racking Weights
    It’s rude not to put the weights back where they belong. There is nothing more frustrating and time-consuming than to have to hunt down the weights you want to use.

    Wipe Down the Equipment
    Wipe down the equipment when you are done. It is disgusting to walk up to use a piece of exercise equipment and have it dripping with someone else’s sweat.

    Towel
    Wrap a towel around you in the locker room. No one wants to see you naked.

    Wash Your Hands Before and After Working Out
    Washing your hands before and after exercising can help stop the spread of colds and other germs.

    Don’t Be a Machine Hog
    It is frustrating having to wait for a machine. It is even more frustrating when someone decides to spend 20 minutes on a machine. It is a good idea to offer to share between your sets.

    Put Your Stuff in a Locker
    Don’t leave your gym bag or water bottle where it will get in the way of others.

    Wear Clean Clothing
    One use is the max for wearing your gym clothes. Otherwise you stink people out.

    Nobody Wants to Hear Your Conversations
    When talking to people at the gym. Keep your vice down.

    Don’t Spit in the Water Fountain
    This grosses out the person behind you.

    Your number one goal is to get is to shape. Your number two goal should be to do it without irritating anyone.

    Weight Loss Doom and Gloom

    When we are losing weight consistently we take it for granted. We then start to take these results as expectations. However, when weight loss does not happen as fast as expected or when it stops we start to adopt a doom and gloom attitude.

    This is not a time to develop this attitude. This is the time to realize that you have lost some weight and can lose more. It is the time to tweak some things so that you can succeed. A lull does not mean defeat. It means a rethink. It means taking one small adjustment after another until you get the results you desire.

    Success is in your grasp. Go for it!

    The 5 Minute Workout | Exercise Five Minutes at a Time

    There are weeks that I can’t get to the gym as much as I would like. However, I want to get some physical activity in. Therefore, I developed a 5-minute workout. Every 55 minutes I take a five minute and exercise.

    I may do:

  • Five minutes of abs
  • Five minutes of push-ups
  • Five minutes of curling using my exercise tubes with handles.
  • Five minutes of chair dips
  • If you can break up your exercises into five-minute segments you can get the exercise you want. You are just doing it 5 minutes at a time.

    Justify Staying Overweight Blah, Blah, Blah…

    Over the years, I have had people tell me, “It’s easy for you to lose weight because blah, blah, blah… It is different for me because blah, blah, blah…” These are excuses that people use to justify staying overweight. These are excuses justifying to themselves why they are overweight and should stay overweight. They are also trying to convince me that they have an excellent reason for staying overweight by demeaning my hard work and success.

    The problem is that as long as they keep using excuses for their weight issues as justifications, they will never do anything about their weight. Additionally, they will end up hurting themselves and their family in the long run.

    Therefore, if the person I describe above is you, get rid of the blah, blah, blah… excuses, let’s find a reason to do what we need to do, and let’s get it done.

    Most people think that if you want to lose weight, you need to watch everything you eat, all the time. This is wrong. What needs to be done is that if you want to lose weight, you need to watch what you eat most of the time. If your eating habits are good, more than they are bad you will succeed. Part of the secret when eating poorly is to be mindful of portions. Another part is to make sure that you add time and intensity to your exercise routine when you do eat poorly. This helps to reduce the calorie impact of what you are eating.

    Making healthy decisions does not have to be painful. However, it does have to be done to be successful at losing weight.

    Therefore, make the right healthy decisions (most o the time) and make your body lose weight.

  • Are you willing to make the healthy choices not the easy choices?

    Maintain Your Weight with Inspiration

    I received an email the other day from a woman who bought my books. She wrote that my little daily inspirations have really helped her maintain her weight. I am not telling you this to brag but to point out that sometimes a daily reminder can be the difference maker in maintaining your weight. It is a reminder that although you hit your weight goal, you still need to remain mindful of what, and how much you eat. It is a reminder that if you are not careful, you will gain the weight back.

Persistence pays off. Weight loss comes to those who are persistent.

    Staying focused is an important part of losing weight and maintaining it after it is lost. The main reason I see that people gain the weight back after losing it, is that they lose their focus. After losing weight people tend to believe that they are done. What happens is that they take their focus away from their weight. Their old bad habits creep back. The weight comes back slowly. Before they realize it, they have the weight back sometimes with interest. Focus is important while you are losing weight. However, it is even more important after the weight is lost.

    If you want to lose weight and keep it off, never lose your focus and always pay attention to your weight, and the habits that allowed you to get your weight down.
