Over seven years ago I lost 50 pounds in four months. How did I do it you may be asking? I did it by changing the way I think about food, exercise, and the weight loss process. Today I want to address the subject of food and the weight-loss process.

Many people I talk to are scared to lose weight because they think they have to starve themselves and when they do eat, they think that they have to eat bad tasting food.

This is far from the truth. Yes, you need to start eating healthy food. However, it does not have to taste bad, and you don’t need to starve yourself. Additionally, you totally don’t have to give up your favorite foods.

The issue is this. If you feel that weight loss is going to be torture. You will find ways to make it that way. If you feel that weight loss is good and can be easy, you will find a way to make it happen.

When I started the weight loss process, I starved myself, ate celery, and ate rice cakes. After about a week of driving myself crazy I came with the realization that if I wanted to lose weight for the long term, I was going to have to do something differently. I was going to have to figure out how to eat healthier, enjoy what I was eating, and lose weight. This and only this would set me up for long-term success.

This is about balance. It is about balancing the food I love in proper portions with healthier foods for a new way of long-term eating. It worked. I eat two low-calorie healthy meals and one higher-calorie, lower portion meal for long-term weight-loss success.

If you want to lose weight, find a balanced eating approach that you can live with from this point forward and get started.
