Ways to Cut Down on Sugar

Whether they will admit it or not, Americans love their sugar, consuming on average around 95 pounds a year.

As most of us know, too much added sugar can cause health issues like tooth decay, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. It is also the source of empty calories, which means that it contains no nutritional value.

    How can you reduce your sugar intake you may be asking?

  • Don’t put it into food or drinks like coffee, tea, or cereal.
  • Reduce your sugary drink intake.
  • Avoid fruit juice, and if you do drink them, make sure that they are 100 percent fruit juice.
  • Avoid cereals that contain sugar or labeled frosted.
  • Cut down on store bought salad dressings, ketchup, syrups, jams, jellies, and preserves.
  • Avoid canned fruit packed in syrup.
  • Reduce consumption of processed foods.
  • Avoid cookies, cake, pies, ice cream, and sweets. Replace them with fruit, as your snack.
