5 Great Foods For Losing Weight

Friday, November 8th, 2013

Seven years ago, I lost 50 pounds. I did it in part by swapping my unhealthy lunches for natural and lighter lunches. Some of the things I started to eat were:

  • Apples
  • Bananas
  • Nuts
  • Lean protein
  • Pineapple
  • Grapes
  • However, I did not eat all of these items everyday. I would eat, just one or two of the items above.

Eating these items for lunch gave me more energy and helped me to hit my weight-loss goal. They can also help you.

    Garlic salt

This makes a great healthy lunch.

Can’t or Don’t Cook and Still Lose Weight

    Monday, April 15th, 2013

If you don’t cook or don’t like to cook there is still hope for losing weight. There are many healthy meals that you can buy. Grocery stores sell lots of pre-made food, just for you. You can get a roasted chicken. You can buy a variety of salads, vegetables, fruits, nuts, cheeses, etc.

If you go out to eat a lot, there are usually healthy options to choose from. You just need to make the right choices.

If that does not satisfy you, learn how to cook simple, tasty, yet healthy meals. It doesn’t have to take a lot of time.

Here’s another idea for you. Many years ago when I was single, I would spend part of Sunday night cooking for the week. When I got home from work, I would just have to heat it up.

The other thing that you can do is to get into clean eating. It is an all-natural way to eat healthy and lose weight. Here’s an article I wrote a while back on it.

Losing weight is not connected to whether you cook or not. It is related to the choices that you make. Make the right choices and lose weight.

I Have to Cook Family Meals – Can’t Lose Weight

    Monday, April 1st, 2013

    Can’t Lose Weight?

This is a great excuse for not losing weight. When you use this excuse what you are saying is that your family should not eat healthy. Additionally, there is no law that says that healthy foods can’t taste good.

In my book, I teach people that they don’t have to give up their favorite foods. However, if you eat your favorite unhealthy foods, just watch your portion sizes. That is the key when eating fattening foods for weight loss.

Additionally, there is a difference between cooking for your family and how much you eat. They don’t go together.

There is another aspect to cooking family meals, and that is picking. Picking can be a good thing if done correctly. I do a lot of the cooking on the weekends because I enjoy it. I find that if I pick while I cook, I tend to spoil my appetite. This allows me to eat less at dinner. If you use picking to kill your hunger so the end result is eating less food, then it can be a good thing. Just don’t pick and then pile your plate with food.

The moral of the story is that you can cook and still lose weight if you follow the few simple things above.

    The Keys To Building Muscle

    Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

    Building Muscle | Build Muscle

Do you weight train and weight train and see little or no results? That is what happened to me, until I understood the second piece of the puzzle. The second piece of the puzzle is amino acids. One of the ways the body uses amino acids is to build muscle. If you are not getting enough amino acids, your body will not build muscle. Therefore, it is essential that you intake an adequate amount of food that contains amino acids if you want to build muscle.

The best source of amino acids is lean protein. Lean protein is great if you want to build muscle. There are also protein supplements and amino acid supplements available if you feel that you need them. An important thing to remember is not to overdue it. Remember, too much of anything is not good.

Therefore, if you want to build muscle, eat lean protein.

Always consult with your doctor before starting any weight loss, fitness, or nutritional program.

Don’t Have Time To Eat Healthy?

    Wednesday, February 27th, 2013

    Eat Healthier | Eat Healthy

I hear all the time that, “I am too busy to eat healthy,” this is an excuse. Eating healthy is about choices not time. It is about making the smart choices not the fun choices. It is about balance. It is about balancing the foods that you love with healthy foods, so that you can lose the weight that you want.

There are also many healthy things that you can eat that take little or no time to prepare. For example, for lunch, why not eat fruits and nuts? That is what I eat for lunch. How much time does that take? It takes less than going out for lunch. If you truly want to lose weight, this won’t be an issue. The issue comes in when you don’t really want to lose weight, you look for excuses, rationalize them, wrap them in a bow, and call it a reason.

If you don’t have time to start eating healthier, how are you going to have time for that heart attack or stroke? This sounds harsh (it’s tough love). However, if you want better odds of having a longer healthier time upon this earth, start eating healthier.

Additionally, the earlier you start the better. Therefore, let’s start now.

Keep Food in The Car to Drop the Weight – Drop Weight

    Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

    Drop Weight

During the weight loss process, you can be tempted with pulling into a fast-food restaurant or party store. When you are hungry, this can have devastating consequences for your weight loss endeavor. I have found for myself that keeping food in the car helps to combat the temptation, especially when I forget to pack a lunch. What kinds of food do I keep in car you may be asking?

  • Nuts
  • Protein bars
  • Fiber bars
  • Meal replacement bars
  • Trail mix
  • Water
  • If I forget to pack a lunch, I just reach into my glove box and there are healthy alternatives that can keep me full until dinner. Weight loss is about planning ahead so that you don’t get caught with your guard down.

If you can do this, you will be able to drop weight and keep it off.

Chicken Scaloppini with labna – A Great Healthy Dish

    Monday, December 17th, 2012

Wellness Chef Doug Cordier is my guest blogger today.

Wellness is a natural state of equilibrium or being in balance. St.Luke said “heal thyself” When your body and mind are in balance your body will heal itself. Unfortunately, we Americans have become lazy. We have let others take charge of our health. Just take a pill .Look around and you you’ll see this doesn’t work.

We all need to become more self reliant and serious about a healthy lifestyle.

Today, over 33% of Americans are obese.
We could eliminate obesity by following some simple guidelines and improve our chances of living a longer and healthier life

    Try this and feel better:

    * Consume fresh organic foods close to their source
    * Avoid hydrogenated foods
    * Learn to read and head food labels
    * Drink lots of filtered water
    * Eliminate high fructose corn syrup
    * Avoid white flour and white sugar
    * Eliminate high glycemic foods
    * Be active, “when you rest you rust.”
    * Add fiber to your diet
    * Replace processed foods with fresh veggies, fruits, nuts and whole grains
    * Use only olive, coconut and grape seed oils.

Wellness cooking is preparing nutritious meals that are delicious and yet nutritious.

If this sounds impossible, try this simple no fuss dish.

    Chicken Scaloppini with labna

    Ingredients

    1 large chicken breast
    1 cup PANKO bread crumbs
    3 Tbs labna (Lebanese yogurt)**
    Sea salt & pepper
Olive oil or grape seed oil for sauté
    Lemon wedges
    chopped parsley for garnish

    1. Dry surface of chicken breasts, lay flat on cutting board
    2. Carefully place hand on top of breast, start at thick end and cut chicken breast
in half length wise….making a cutlet or scaloppini.
    3. Place chicken pieces between two sheets of waxed paper or Saran wrap.
4 Pound chicken breasts until they are uniform thickness of ¼ “
    5. Season chicken with sea salt & pepper
    6. Make sure chicken surface is dry. Spread labna evenly on one side of chicken
    8. Dredge chicken in bread crumbs….spread other surface and flip over
9 . Lightly sauté breaded chicken pieces in olive or grape seed oil until golden
    10. Serve with lemon wedges and chopped parsley garnish.

** Labna is thick Lebanese yogurt on steroids, available at Middle Eastern shops.
