The Truth About Weight Loss

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Many people think weight loss is about starving yourself. They are wrong. When we starve ourselves, our bodies try to store more calories the next time we eat in excess of what our body needs. So, even though we are dramatically reducing our food intake most of the time, we will not lose weight, if we get excess calories some of the time.

A big rule of weight loss is this, you must consistently burn off more calories than you take in. It is also a rule that anything you do to accomplish this will work, as long as your calorie intake is consistently reduced, every day. A balanced set of eating habits that contain small quantities of vegetables, fruit, grains and lean meat or fish is the healthiest way to lose weight. Exercise will help, but you will also still have to cut calories. Remember that after you lose the weight, if you go back to eating more and exercising less, the weight will come back.

Weight Loss Warnings – Don’t Do It

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Always consult your doctor before changing your food and exercise routine.

Do Not Starve Yourself
In the short run, reducing your calorie intake to unhealthily levels will slow metabolism and actually cause you to lose weight slower. I am not saying that you can’t lose weight fast. What I am saying is not to starve yourself and don’t skip meals.

Don’t Work A Single or Group of Muscles
When starting a weight lifting routine, do not focus on a single muscle or group. This will overbuild that muscle while under building others causing you to look disproportioned. Therefore, I recommend a balanced workout. A balanced workout strengthens all the joints and smaller muscles equally. Have a personal trainer teach you how to achieve balanced a workout.

Keep Moving to Lose Weight – Weight Loss Success Tip

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

When I was a child, I was thin. As I got older that changed. What happened? The answer is simple. When I was a child, I was very active. I did not sit still for a moment. Consequently, I burned many calories. However, as I got older, life changed. I became a computer IT professional. As a computer IT professional, I sat many hours behind a computer. This did not allow me to burn many calories. Add to that the fact that I did not adjust my eating and calorie intake to compensate for less activity. I gained weight. Therefore, to be able to lose weight and keep my weight off, I needed to increase my activity level.

Did I still need to sit in front of the computer all day? The answer is yes. However, I didn’t have to sit in front of the television all night.

I do things around the house to burn calories in the evening. If I want to watch a show I make sure that I get up and do something during commercials. I walk up the stairs to check my email quickly. I go downstairs and hang up a couple of tools. I do a few push-ups, anything to burn a few calories.

Therefore, a key to losing weight and keeping it off is to stay active and keep moving.
