Focus and Attention to Control Your Weight

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

One of the keys to controlling our weight is focus. When people focus on something, they tend to give it priority. Giving our weight loss priority, is what will make it happen. Making weight loss a priority will allow us to turn weight loss from something casual into an emergency. Focusing on your weight loss will give it importance.

When we give weight loss our attention we will do things that we may not naturally do. We will stop going up for seconds. We may go for a walk after dinner. We will cut down our portions. We may only eat a third of our desert. We will increase our activity. We will start exercising. We will start making healthier choices.
This will only happen if we focus on our weight loss and give it our full attention. Let’s do it and let’s get it done.

Is losing weight a challenge for you? Could you use some encouragement and inspiration? Nibbles of Encouragement can help. Change Your Routine to Control Your Weight | Weight Management

Control Your Weight | Manage Your Weight | Weight Management

I learned really early in the weight loss process that if I wanted to control my weight, I would have to change what I was doing. In other words, I would have to change my habits and my routine to change my weight.

I also learned that you can manage your weight by just making a few small changes. Some of the changes can be like…

Start exercising more. This can be as simple as just going for a walk or bike ride. It can also be as intense as going for a run or weight training. My wife likes to read her Kindle while exercising on the elliptical at a leisurely pace. I love to go on long runs or do intense weight training. My wife and I are at two opposite extremes in the intensities of our exercise routines. However, it works for the both of us. The key is to find something that you enjoy and make it part of your routine.

Changing your routine may involve doing something, while watching TV, other than eating. Find a craft to work on or exercise while watching TV. I like to go into my basement, turn on the TV, and watch my favorite TV shows while I weight train. Therefore, look at your schedule and find a way to make it work.

Changing your eating routine is another way to help manage your weight. If you go out to eat at lunchtime, start packing a lunch. If you pack a lunch, make it a lighter lunch. If you go out for dinner, start cooking more so that you can control what you eat.

Controlling your weight requires minor changes in your routine. However, it is well worth it. So let’s get started today.

Control Your Food | Control Your Weight | Weight Control

Exercise is important for taking the weight off. However, I have found over the years that you can’t just exercise yourself to weight loss. You need to control your food if you want to control your weight.

It does not mean that you have to deprive yourself of the foods you love. However, you do need to control your intake of them. Portions and balance are the keys here.

Balance between the foods that you love (in the right portions), and the healthy foods will help you control your weight.

Over the holidays, most people gain between five and ten pounds because they did not understand and practice this balance. I ate cookies and leftovers everyday over the holidays, yet my weight stayed the same. I could do it because I had the right mindset, controlled my portions, and therefore, could control my weight. I enjoyed the holiday foods, enjoyed the holiday deserts, monitored my weight closely, and made it through another holiday without any weight gain.

That is a key if you want to control your weight.

Control Junk Food and Control Your Weight – How to Eat Junk Food to Lose Weight

Control Your Weight | Control Junk Food | Manage Your Weight

Most of us love our junk food. It is very addicting. It lures us in with two things that we crave, sugar and salt. However, if you want to control your weight, you need to learn how to control your junk food intake. I am not saying that you need to give it up completely. However, you will need to cut back.

Additionally, you should also make it a habit to rotate in some healthy snacks. Instead of eating ice cream all the time, why not eat some fresh pineapple to satisfy your sweet tooth? Greek yogurt with fresh fruit is sometimes a nice replacement to ice cream. Instead of eating chips all the time, eat nuts or whole-wheat crackers with cheese. If you really think about it and really want to lower your weight, it is very easy to find healthy, tasty, lower calorie replacements.

I mentioned above that you don’t need to give up junk food completely. However, you do need to learn how to eat junk food so that you can manage your weight. I have learned how to eat junk food and still keep my weight off. I love chips and ice cream. When I eat ice cream, I eat one scoop, and I eat it really slow, so I can enjoy it. I realized that I was eating it too fast and really wasn’t enjoying it. When I eat chips, I take a napkin, leave it folded and put a pinch of chips on it. Once again, I eat them very slow, enjoying every bite.

Junk food will ruin your weight if you let it. Therefore, you control it rather than let it control you. You can do it! Let’s start today.

Control Your Weight | Is Your Office Making You Fat?

Monday, December 24th, 2012

First of all, your office isn’t making you fat.  You are making yourself fat.  It is very easy to find someone or something to blame for your weight problem.  However, it is you that put fattening items into your mouth, not your coworkers, and you need to own up to it.  Now with that said, there are some things that you can avoid doing at the office, if you want to control your weight.

 Bring Your Lunch

If you want to control your weight, bring your lunch. It will give you more control.  Now, I am not saying that you can ever go out to lunch with your coworkers.  However, I would limit it to once a week, and I would either make a healthy selection or use portion control to keep the calorie intake to a minimum.

Avoid Cakes, Pies or Donuts.

When I go into an office, I always witness sweets sitting out.  It can be cake, pies, donuts, bagels, etc.  They often look very inviting.  However, if you can keep from eating them, you will be able to mange your weight.  You can still manage your weight even if you can’t resist them.  The key is to only eat half.  Cut a donut in half, eat a half of bagel, cut a very small piece of cake.  Eat for taste and not for quantity.  Take small bites, savor every bite, and you can still stay on track and control your weight.

Find Ways to Stay Active at Work.

Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Fidget while you work.  Go for a walk at lunch.  Suck your stomach in and hold it for 60 seconds.  Walk to someone’s office instead of calling.

If you can do these few things, you will be able to control your weight at work.

Eat Lighter Alternatives To Slim Down – Weight Loss Tip

    Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Whenever possible it is a good idea to substitute low-fat versions of things like salad dressings, mayonnaise, and dairy products, if you want to control your weight. You can reduce calories and your weight easily if you are willing to substitute low-fat and lighter products. Other substitutions you can make are:

  • Substitute salsa or hummus as a dip
  • Use mustard instead of mayo on sandwiches
  • Have plain roasted sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes
  • Substitute cream with skim milk in your coffee
  • Eliminate cheese on sandwiches
  • Use vinaigrette on your salad instead of creamy salad dressing
  • Eliminate sugar on your cereal
  • If you can make a few substitutions with your foods, you will be able to lose weight and keep it off.

Don’t Deprive Yourself to Lose Weight

    Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Someone asked me yesterday what the key to losing weight was. My simple answer to that question was this. If at the end of the day you feel that you deprived yourself of anything. You lost the weight loss battle.
If you work hard to control your weight, you may enjoy your appearance, but don’t get depressed when you pass on foods you like. That is because there is a fine balance to maintain between immediate gratification of the food and the long-term gratification of maintaining your desired weight. When you can get the right balance you can live with, you can lose weight and keep it off for good.
