What Do You Need in Order to Drop Weight?

Over the years, I have been asked how I lost so much weight. I was asked so many times that I wrote two short books about it (see below). However, before we can lose weight and keep it off, we need to have our head and heart right place. Let me explain. In order to lose weight, we need to want it really bad. We need to want it so bad that we are willing to change what we are doing, not for a day, week, or month, but from this day forward. That really takes some soul searching. It takes getting our head and heart in the right place. This is our motivation. It is our reason for wanting to do it. It is both logical and emotional. It is powerful. It is so powerful that it will get us off the sofa and into the gym. It is so powerful that we don’t take seconds at mealtime. It is so powerful that we are willing to change.

This is different for everyone. However, it can be developed if you aren’t there yet. However, you need the desire, to start.

What do you need in order to lose weight? You need to have your head and heart in the right place.

When it comes to managing your weight persistence pays off. Weight-loss success goes to those people who are persistent. How can you become persistent you may be asking? Make it a priority in your life. If you make it a priority, you will make the time, and you will be persistent at it. Additionally if you enjoy the process, you will tend to be persistent at it. Persistence pays off. Weight loss comes to those who are persistent.

Be persistent and watch the needle on the scale go down.

Whatever It Takes to Drop Weight – Weight Loss Attitude

Losing weight takes a positive attitude. It also takes a “Whatever It Takes” attitude. What does this include? This includes being consistent with your weight loss actions. It means being persistent and determined to make it happen. It also means turning what once were tough choices into easy ones because you are looking at long-term success over short term satisfaction. Having the “Whatever It Takes” attitude happens when you have strong motivation to lose weight. When this happens, weight loss will happen because nothing can stop you. The “Whatever It Takes” attitude will allow you to overcome obstacles. It will force you to look at the results and not the process. It will also allow you to prove the doubters wrong.

Additionally, if you keep this attitude after you lose weight, you will be able to keep the weight off.

Therefore, if you want to lose weight and keep it off for a lifetime, get a strong motivation to lose it and adopt a “Whatever It Takes” attitude.

How Do I Drop Weight?

How do I drop weight? Let me count the ways. There are thousands of techniques and tricks to lose weight. However, when it comes down to it they can be boiled down to just one. Take in fewer calories than you burn. All the diet and weight loss tips and tricks are all centered on this. This is important because if we want to lose weight, we need to realize this, get our head in the game to do this, and don’t take this as being negative. Reducing the calories we intake is a good thing. If we make the calories healthier calories, we will start to feel better, have more energy, and lose weight. Our knees may start to feel better. We may have an easier time going up and down the stairs. Getting out of a chair may become easier. Losing weight can make getting in and out of the car easier.

If you really think about it, eating fewer calories than you intake is a good thing.

How to Drop Weight

Sometimes I have to be a little harsh to get my point across. This is one of those times.

Do you want to drop weight but are constantly complaining about what you are doing to get the weight off? I have a piece of advice for you. Stop complaining! You can’t lose weight for the long term if you complain. If you are complaining, you are losing the weight the wrong way. If you are complaining, you eventually will stop doing what it takes to get the drop weight. If you are complaining, get over it and move on.

Dropping weight is not about torturing you. If you are complaining, you are torturing yourself, and you can stop anytime you want. The key to not complaining is not to feel that you have deprived yourself.

The key to not feeing that you have deprived yourself is to change what you are focusing on. Let me explain. If you focus on the process (ie. eating healthier, exercising, etc.) you will make yourself miserable. If you focus on why you want to drop weight and your successes along the way, you will be happier and more successful in the long term.

Therefore, one of the things that you need to do if you want to be successful at losing weight is to quit complaining and start focusing on the right things.

Weight Loss Attitude | Drop Weight

One of the things that we need to do if we want to lose weight is to change our attitude. We need to change our attitude towards food, exercise, and the weight loss process. If we are sitting there asking what that means, let me explain.

If we hate to exercise, we won’t do it long term. If weight loss means starvation and having to give up our favorite food, who is going to want to do that? I am not. That is a few of the attitudes that we need to change if we want to lose weight.

Like I always say, losing weight is not about dieting and not about exercise, it is about changing our thinking and our attitudes.

I like to exercise. I look forward to it. It is my time. It releases the stress of the day. When I am done exercising I am relaxed and have a clear mind. Who do we think will exercise regularly and do it long term? Someone who likes to exercise or someone who hates to do it? Someone who likes to exercise, will do it long term. Change that bad attitude, change that poor thinking, and we will exercise regularly and for the long term. If we don’t we won’t. It is as simple as that.

Therefore, if we want to drop weight, then we need to drop the bad attitude.

Stay Busy and Drop Weight

Boredom Eating | Drop Weight

If you want to drop weight, it is a always a great idea to stay busy. Boredom is an enemy to dropping weight. It can sabotage your weight-loss goals. People, including myself go for snacks when they are bored. It seems that the higher the boredom level the more snacks that are consumed.

How do you solve this problem you may be asking? There are two things that you can do. The first thing that you can do is to have healthy snacks to eat when you get bored, instead of eating high calorie junk food. Another thing that you can do is make sure that you never get bored. Have a little project that you can do when you get bored. Have things that you can do when you are watching TV (including exercise).

If you can keep busy so that you don’t get bored, you will be on your way to dropping the weight you desire.

Are Your Family And Friends Keeping You From Dropping Weight?

I have done a post about this before, I will do one now, and I will do it again. This is important. I hear all time that people gain weight back after losing it because their friends and family tell them they look sick and have lost too much weight. I hear that after losing weight, getting to what their doctor says is a healthy weight, their family and friends turn on them. It is almost like they resent their success. However, I think and hope it is just that they are not used to seeing them at a healthy weight. Since a good portion of our population is overweight and obese, I really believe that most people really don’t know what a healthy weight truly looks like. When I was being told that I was too thin by my family and friends, my doctor was cheering my success. My doctor was telling me that my weight was great. He even told me I could drop another 10 pounds and still be at a safe and healthy weight if I wanted to lose more.

Who should you believe your family and friends or your doctor? What happens next is great. If you can keep your family and friends from controlling your weight, you will be better off. They will eventually get used to your new weight, and you will not have to defend yourself.

Just remember to get your doctor’s advice on your weight and ignore everyone else.

Weight Loss Mistakes | Drop Weight | Weight Loss Process

When I was in the weight loss process, I made plenty of mistakes. I overate at times. I ate the wrong foods in the wrong quantities. One day my weight was down the next day it was way up. However, I did not quit.

Setbacks are part of the weight loss process. We are human. We screw up. However, how you deal with the weight loss mistakes you make will define your results.

Do you dwell upon the mistakes or do you learn from them? Do you let your setbacks consume you, or do you figure out a way to get back on track? Do you lose doubt that you can do it, or does it piss you off into working harder at it?

It is not the mistake that means anything, it is your reaction to the mistakes that is important. Remember that mistakes and setbacks are part of the weight loss process. Have the right attitude when they happen, and you will have the results you want. Have a bad attitude when they happen and you will fail. It is your choice.

Do You Hate to Exercise? | Drop Weight

Hate To Exercise? | Drop Weight


I often hear from women that they can’t drop weight because they don’t like to exercise. This is an excuse. That is because exercise comes in many flavors. You can have intense exercise. You can have moderate exercise. You can have light exercise, and you can stay active. Exercise does always have to include sweating. Going for a walk with a friend or your mp3 player is a good example. Doing house work or yard work is exercise. The object is to keep moving and stay active, especially after dinner. Don’t eat your biggest meal and then sit in front of the TV without doing something. Want to watch TV? Install a TV in the basement and place exercise equipment in front of it. You can watch your favorite shows while you exercise. I like to weight train or work out on my elliptical machine at 9:00pm while I watch my favorite shows.

My point is, if you are using exercise as an excuse not to drop weight, STOP. If you really give it some thought, I am sure that you can find an exercise that you can enjoy.

I want to leave you with a question. Would you rather exercise, feel better, and look better, or would you rather stay overweight and not be as healthy as you could, all because you don’t want to sweat?

Therefore, find activities that you enjoy doing and keep doing them. If you look hard enough you can find activities you enjoy and get some exercise as a side effect. Let’s get started.
