You can train for charity events. Training for charity runs, walks, or bike rides are not only a great way to raise money for a good cause, it is a great reason to get and stay in shape.

Using gadgets to track your progress is a great way to keep exercise fun and to stay motivated.

Mix It Up To Shed Weight

Monday, November 5th, 2012

Over six years ago, when I was in the process of losing 50 pounds, I found that periodically my body would adjust in a different way than I would have thought. If I did the same exercise routine for weeks, my body would adjust and would get used to the new normal, and the results would come slower. If I ate about the same amount of calories for weeks at a time, the results would slow down after a while.

Therefore, I realized that I had to mix it up. I had to switch cardio with strength training. I had to increase my cardio, duration and intensity.

Also, I had to increase my calorie intake occasionally, for a day, to keep my body from adjusting to the new norm. In other words, I had to mix it up.

Therefore, if you want to shed weight, mix it up and take the weight off.

Get the Most from Your Cardio Exercise Routine

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

A cardio exercise is an exercise that gets your heart pumping. It can help you get rid of unwanted body fat. It can give you more energy. It can also help you lose weight. However, you have to do it, to benefit from it.

Enjoy Your Exercise Routine

If you don’t enjoy your cardio exercise routine, it is time to find another. You won’t stick to doing one that you don’t enjoy.

Have an Exercise Plan in Place

This plan should tell you when to work out, what exercises you are going to do, how long to work out, and specify the intensity of the workout.

Don’t Get Bored

Don’t get bored with your workout. Mix it up so that you don’t get bored with your exercise routine. Boredom is a killer of any exercise routine.

Good Form

Not having a good form when doing an exercise will cause you not to gain the full benefits of it.

Be Careful of Getting Hurt

It is important to warm up before you do your exercise routine. If you are a runner, make sure you always have a good pair of shoes. I have injured myself (not seriously) by using a worn-out pair of shoes.

Keep a Log

Keep a log if you feel it will help you stay on track. Write down your exercise time, how much weight you drop, and the amount your BMI has lowered. Review the logs, see what is working, what is not working, and make the proper adjustments to your plan.

Optimize Your Heart Rate

Your maximum heart rate is calculated by taking the number 220 minus your age.

Should you eat?

Test this for yourself. Try a cardio routine in the morning before you eat for a fat-burning boost, and then try one after you eat. Not eating before a workout gives you a fat-burning jolt. However, eating before you exercise can give you more energy that may allow you to exercise harder and longer.

Mix it Up

Do different speeds and or different intensities while working out to challenge yourself.

How to Get More Activity To Lose Weight

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

If you want to lose weight, it is a good idea to have both aerobic exercise and weight training in your exercise routine.

  • Select a time and place
  • Exercise requires time. It requires that you make your workout a priority. Therefore, you need to plan where, when and how much you are going to exercise.

  • Start out, slow and build up.
  • If you are new to exercising, or you have not exercised in a while, it is important that you don’t over do it. Start out, slow and build up your time and intensity.

  • Choose something fun that works for you.
  • It is important that you do an exercise activity that you enjoy. I love to run and weight train. My wife loves to read her Kindle while using the elliptical. Find something and do it!

  • Make 30 Minutes to an hour your goal
  • It is important to exercise 30 minutes to an hour, four to five days a week. Make it your goal.

  • Record your progress
  • If this helps you, it may be a good idea to track both what you do and your results. Track calories in a weight loss journal, keep track of exercises on a chart, and write down your weight daily on a calendar. Is this necessary? No it is not. However, many people find this to be useful in their weight loss and fitness endeavor.

If you want to lose weight it is a good idea to add more physical activity into your daily routine.

A Few Exercises You Can Do While Watching TV

    Thursday, November 24th, 2011

Being a couch potato can be bad for your health, but if you love TV and still want to get a workout in, you can easily do it by trying out these exercises while watching TV.

  • Move your exercise equipment in front of the TV
  • If you have a treadmill, elliptical machine or a stationary bike that you are using as a clothes hanger, move it in front of the TV and start using it.

  • Set up a training routine in front of your TV
  • Walk in place, use dumbbells, an exercise band, an exercise ball, or steps.

  • Instead of getting a snack during commercials, do pushups and crunches.
  • This will allow you to burn calories instead of adding them.

  • Lunge while watching TV.
  • Do lunges in place or lunge while walking around the room.

  • Do squats while watching TV.
  • Squats can be done in place, or you can do it by squatting up against a wall in a sitting position using the wall as support.

  • Change your exercise routines periodically.
  • Change your exercise routine regularly so that you don’t get bored and are more likely to stay with exercising for long term.

I exercise in front of the TV regularly. I use an exercise ball to do it. I figure that if I am exercising, I won’t get bored and start eating.

Being a couch potato does not have to be detrimental to your health and physical appearance. Just exercise and see the result.

Mix-up Your Exercise Routine To Get Fit, Get Trimmer, and Drop Pounds

    Thursday, May 12th, 2011

One of the ways that you can avoid getting bored when exercising is to add a variety to your exercise program. This can also help you lose more weight and become fitter and trimmer.

When you perform the same exercises using the same intensity, your body gets used to it and does not react as well as it did when you first started the routine. In addition, your muscles get stronger when they need to adapt to changes of different exercises. By changing your exercise routine and the order in which you do them, you can force it to react and adapt to the new exercise routine which will give you better results.

    Weight Train to Lose Weight

    Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Last week I mentioned that you don’t need to sweat to exercise. That is for people that want to exercise but don’t really want the stuff that goes with it like sweating. I feel that I would rather have someone go for a leisurely walk than no walk at all.

See Article: You Don’t Have to Sweat to Exercise

However, there is nothing that beats a good, hard, sweaty workout. My favorite exercise is running, but I have added weight training to the mix a few months ago. Although weight training builds muscle it also can cause you to lose weight. It is generally good to include full-body weight training to your exercise routine two to three days of the week. The reason is this. Strength training will break down your muscles, which causes your body to repair them. This takes a lot of energy and helps to boost your metabolism causing your body to burn fat while building muscle.

    Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

As you go about your day spend a few minutes writing down (tracking) what you are doing, Also, track when you are doing it, and how long you are doing it. After a week of tracking your activity, sit down and review it for wasted time. Eliminate that time wasting activities replace them with exercise time.

How To Get Into an Exercise Routine – Repetition – Part 2 of 5

    Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Repetition is a key to weight loss and fitness. You need to exercise constantly in order for it to become a habit. The hardest part is taking the first step. This went back to yesterday’s tip. Once you make your health and fitness a priority then repetition and turning it into a habit is easy. Furthermore, if you can find an exercise you enjoy, you will be more willing to include it in your daily activities.

Weight Loss Warnings – Don’t Do It

    Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Always consult your doctor before changing your food and exercise routine.

    Do Not Starve Yourself
In the short run, reducing your calorie intake to unhealthily levels will slow metabolism and actually cause you to lose weight slower. I am not saying that you can’t lose weight fast. What I am saying is not to starve yourself and don’t skip meals.

Don’t Work A Single or Group of Muscles
When starting a weight lifting routine, do not focus on a single muscle or group. This will overbuild that muscle while under building others causing you to look disproportioned. Therefore, I recommend a balanced workout. A balanced workout strengthens all the joints and smaller muscles equally. Have a personal trainer teach you how to achieve balanced a workout.
