Move It

Move It & Lose It

If you want to lose weight, it would be a great idea to start moving more. Yes, that includes exercising. If you don’t like to exercise, it only means that you have not found one you like yet. The question is, are you willing to try new exercises or are you just making excuses for not doing it.

Exercise can help you lose weight, look better, feel better, and increase your metabolism.

Therefore, my question to you is this, do you hate being overweight and unhealthy more than you hate to exercise? Your honest answer to this question can get you thin.

Elf On The Shelf

Elf on the Shelf likes to Exercise

Even the Elf on the Shelf likes to exercise
If we want to live a longer and healthier life we need to add exercise into our daily routine. Even Alfonso the Elf on the Shelf knows this. Two mornings in a row, we caught him exercising. Alfonso realizes that exercise=mobility. Alfonzo the Elf on the Shelf stays thin because he exercises and is very active.

Exercise and physical activity can keep your muscles strong, bones strong, keep you flexible, and keep you young.

The holiday season can be busy. However, that is no excuse to skip exercising. It is no excuse to skip something that will help you live longer and healthier. Remember, a healthy holiday is a happier holiday.

Take the lead from Alfonzo and let’s make sure we exercise over the holidays.

    Hate to Exercise, Think Again

    Hate to Exercise

One of the changes that we need to make if we want to lose weight is that we are going to have to change our attitude towards exercise. It is my experience that some people just hate to exercise. It is that attitude that needs to change if they want to lose weight. Hate is an attitude. Hate is a mindset. It is that mindset that has to change if they want to lose weight.

If you are one of those people that hate to exercise; the key to changing that mind-set is to find an exercise that you enjoy. Exercise does not have to be painful. Exercise can be fun. You don’t have to sweat when exercising. It can be as simple or as easy as going for a walk. It can be as easy as taking the stairs instead of the elevator. It can be playing with your children or grandchildren. It can be going for a bike ride. Walk around the zoo. It can be doing some gardening. Work on a home repair project. My wife takes her Kindle, gets on the elliptical machine, works-out and reads a book for a half-hour a day.

Exercise can be fun if you make it that way. You will only make it that way if you truly want to. It is all up to you.

    The Keys To Building Muscle

    Wednesday, March 13th, 2013

    Building Muscle | Build Muscle

Do you weight train and weight train and see little or no results? That is what happened to me, until I understood the second piece of the puzzle. The second piece of the puzzle is amino acids. One of the ways the body uses amino acids is to build muscle. If you are not getting enough amino acids, your body will not build muscle. Therefore, it is essential that you intake an adequate amount of food that contains amino acids if you want to build muscle.

The best source of amino acids is lean protein. Lean protein is great if you want to build muscle. There are also protein supplements and amino acid supplements available if you feel that you need them. An important thing to remember is not to overdue it. Remember, too much of anything is not good.

Therefore, if you want to build muscle, eat lean protein.

Always consult with your doctor before starting any weight loss, fitness, or nutritional program.

Ways to Get Rid of Exercise Boredom

    Friday, March 8th, 2013

    Exercise Boredom | Fun Exercises

Getting bored with exercise can easily cause you to quit. Therefore, it is important to find ways to eliminate boredom with your exercise routine so that you will do it long term. Below are a few things you can consider.

    1. Mix it up. When I was losing weight, I ran just about every day. I love to run. After years of running, I still enjoy it, however, I have added weight training to my routine. It breaks up the exercise boredom, especially in the winter. In the summer, I run outside. In the winter, I run on an indoor track. Indoor tracks can get boring. Therefore, I have substituted a couple of my running days with weight training to mix it up.

    2. Look for fun exercises to do. If you are like most people, you will continue to do exercises that are fun, long term.

    3. Play with the kids. They can help you burn a lot of calories.

    4) Train for a charity walk or run. It is a great way to give back, burn lots of calories, and get in shape.

    5) Get new exercises accessories. Using an exercise mat, exercise ball, or an exercise band can add a new dimension to your workout, making it fun.

If you want to get rid of exercise boredom, you may want to test out a few of the ideas above.

Exercise – Tone with High Reps – Size with Low Reps – The Answer

    Friday, July 20th, 2012

I used to think that low weights and reps meant that I would get tone and ripped. I also thought that high weights lower reps would bulk me up. What I thought was wrong. What I learned was that tone muscle meant having low body fat covering over the muscle so that the muscle is exposed. The number of reps does not make a difference. The important thing is to weight train if you want definition, but you also need to lose the fat that is hiding the muscle. This is done by adding cardio into your workout routines and reducing your surgary and high complex carbo food intake.

Therefore, if you want to get tone, strength train and lose fat.

Exercise and Weight Loss Products You Should Purchase

    Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012
  • Gym Membership
  • You don’t need a gym membership to lose weight and get fit. However, gym memberships can be great if you really feel that you are going to use it.

  • Treadmill, Bike, Elliptical Machine
  • For exercising at home, treadmills, exercise bikes, and elliptical machines are the best cardio machines you can buy and use.

  • Free Weights
  • For strength training, free weights (i.e. barbells and dumbbells) are great. I exercise at a gym. However, I also have free weights for strength training at home.

  • Digital Scale
  • A digital scale is a must if you want to lose weight. The ability to track your weight loss progress is an important part of the weight loss process.

  • Measuring Tape
  • Once again, the ability to track your weight loss progress is an important part of the weight loss process.

  • Protein Supplements & Multivitamins
  • These are nutritional supplements not weight-loss supplements.

I recommend these to anyone looking to improving their body or their health. They are a couple of supplements that I like to use. Protein supplements are great for building muscle. Multivitamins have too many benefits to talk about in this post.

Protein and multivitamin supplements can give your body what it lacks, especially if you have an intense workout routine.

Proper Way to Exercise at the Gym

    Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

Going to the gym regularly, I notice that many people don’t really know the proper way to exercise. Therefore, I have compiled a few exercise tips for doing a workout without hurting yourself:

    Don’t swing (your weights)

It is usually a good idea to use slow and controlled movements. If you need to swing the weights, then you are probably trying to lift too much weight.

    Don’t drop the weights

Dropping the weights is a good way to hurt yourself, others, the floor and the facility.

    Don’t lock your joints

Don’t lock your joints when doing a repetition. It is a good way to get hurt.

    Keep Good Posture

Keep a posture so that you can get the most out of your exercise routine and reduce the chance of injury.

    Use the proper intensity

Don’t work out hard that you fell sick. Don’t work out light that you don’t get the benefits of the time you are putting in. Learn the right intensity for you.

If you follow a few simple things, you can have a great workout without hurting yourself.

    Exercise and Weight Loss

    Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Exercise affects weight loss on a few levels. The first is obvious. It helps you burn calories. Since weight loss is based on calories in and calories burned, the more you exercise, the better chance you have of losing weight.

If you weight train, you can burn a few extra calories. This is because muscle needs more calories to maintain itself.

There is another effect. That is the psychological effect. When you exercise you become mindful of what you eat and how much you eat. At first, at least for me, I thought I could lose weight by continuing my bad eating habits as long as I exercised. That was not the case. I then realized that the exercising I was doing was not accomplishing anything. I also realized that I needed to change what I ate and how much I ate. TA-DA! I started to lose weight. As I started to lose weight, I exercised more, became more mindful of food and eating and more weight came off. These were the unknown consequences of exercise. Now, I look at food and say to myself. “Do I really want to have to work this off if I eat it? Mindfulness is a wonderful thing.
