Psych Yourself into Losing Weight

Losing weight is about having the right mindset to do it. This means keeping motivated to do it. Losing weight means being extremely dedicated.

How can you psych yourself up and stay psyched up? Keep your reason for losing weight in front of you always. Additionally, keep your goal in front of yourself at all times. Write it on your mirrors with dry-erase board markers. Put it on your refrigerator. Attach it to your computer screen. Put it on your junk food cabinet.

Additionally, talk to yourself daily. Tell yourself that you can do it. Tell yourself that it is going to happen. Tell yourself that you will do whatever it takes to make it happen. This can be a powerful way to make weight loss happen.

Remember, psyching yourself up and staying psyched up is an important part of losing weight.

Get Discouraged While Trying to Lose Weight?

Don’t get discouraged if your weight loss is not going as fast as you would like. Weight loss takes time. It also takes life-long change. This change can make us both look and feel better. However, changing poor habits does take time, energy, and determination. The results of succeeding at changing poor eating and exercising habits are nothing to be discouraged about. The future results that we envision should get us excited about the future not discourage us.

Discouragement is usually the result of being short sighted. It is the result of concentrating on the process and not the final results (the thinner you). If we want not to get discouraged during the weight loss process let’s focus on the future. Let’s do what we need to do to lose weight and still feel good about what we are doing, and let’s get it done.

Weight Loss Rewards

Losing weight is great in and of itself. However, have a plan to reward yourself when you reach specific milestones. For instance, buy yourself a new piece of clothing. Get a spa treatment. Go for a night out. There is only one rule. Don’t do anything that will cause you to gain any of the weight back. Rewarding yourself will add to your motivation. Rewarding yourself will make you feel good about what you are doing. Weight loss and fitness take work, therefore, reward yourself for hitting milestones and let’s get the rest of the weight off.

Be a Bulldog and Lose Weight : Be Persistent at Losing Weight

Persistent at Losing Weight

If we want to lose weight, we need to be consistent and persistent at doing it. In other words, we need to be a bulldog at losing weight.

This also means that we need to stay focused and never let go of our objective to become thinner and healthier. Bulldogging weight loss means that we will go at it from one angle. If it does not work, we will go at it from another angle. We will keep going at it until we succeed.

When we are in the weight loss process, we must be tough. We must do what we need to do to get it done. It is an attitude of being relentless.

Therefore, if we can be a bulldog at weight loss, we can lose the weight we desire. Let’s get started.

Losing Weight Does Not Have to Be Drastic

Losing weight does not have to be painful. Losing weight does not have to be drastic. However, changes are required. To be thinner we need to modify our bad habits. However, we can modify them slightly, everyday. We don’t need to do them all at once. Small incremental changes are easy to make and can have a big impact on our weight. Small incremental changes can also show us what works and what doesn’t. This allows us to learn, which will help us to maintain our weight once we lose it.

We also need to closely monitor our weight. That’s why I always recommend weighing ourselves daily. It is the best method I know and use to monitor my weight. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, and you don’t want to make drastic changes, make small incremental changes. Make these changes consistently, and be a weight loss winner.

Is Your Environment Keeping You From Losing Weight?

Your environment can be an obstacle in losing weight, but can it actually keep you from losing weight? My answer to this is that if you truly want to lose weight, and your motivation is strong. Nothing will stop you. Obstacles are things that get in the way. They are there to cause the week to fail. The strong will prevail, if they choose to prevail.

It doesn’t matter if it is hard to go for a walk, because your subdivision does not have sidewalks. The weight loss winners will find a way to get a treadmill or an elliptical machine. It is a minor inconvenience but not a show stopper.

Don’t live near a place that has fresh fruit and vegetables? Find a way to get to a market every other week and buy fruits and vegetables that will last two weeks. Where there is a will, there is a way.

If you use your obstacles as excuses not to lose weight, be honest with yourself and admit that you never really wanted to lose it.

Remember, obstacles don’t stop the committed. However, they do stop the uncommitted. Therefore, become committed to your weight loss goal, and you will succeed.

Does Your Work Schedule Keep You From Losing Weight?

People tell me all the time that they can’t lose weight because of their work schedule. This reason is nothing but an excuse in disguise. Losing weight is about calories in versus calories out. If you say you don’t have time to exercise, quit putting so much food in your mouth. It is as simple as that. There are a few things that you can do lose weight if you truly desire:

  • Quit saying that you can’t lose weight and start figuring how.
  • Get up 45 minutes earlier in the morning and exercise before work
  • Use your wind-down time at the end of the evening to exercise and de-stress
  • Pack a healthy light lunch instead of going to the fast-food restaurant for lunch Look for opportunities to burn calories during the day
    • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
    • Walk into someone’s office instead of calling them
    • Take a walk at lunch time

    There are many things that you can do to lose weight, even if you have a busy work schedule. However, you need to replace your excuses with action and get started.

    Are you Ready to Lose Weight?

    Losing weight is not about talk, it is about action. However, before you can take action, you must be ready mentally for the task. What does this mean? It means that you must truly believe that you have a weight problem that needs to be dealt with. It means that your motivation to lose weight has to be something that is long term, not short term (i.e. vacation, wedding, etc.). It means that you need to get rid of all your excuses not to lose weight and replace them with reasons to lose weight. This means that you need to take responsibility for your weight, health, and fitness.

    If you are mentally ready, you will do what it takes to lose weight and keep it off. Losing weight is as easy or as hard as you make it. Therefore, make sure you have the right motivation and the right attitude so that you will succeed at taking the weight off and keeping it off. Let’s get started.

    Weight Loss is About Trade Offs

    A decision to shed weight is not a decision unless there are trade offs.

    Losing weight is about trade offs. It is about trading some of the high-calorie foods you eat with lower calorie healthy foods. It is about trading exercise for your sofa. It is about trading some TV time for activity time. It is about trading eating seconds for having better mobility. It is about trading triple sizing at fast-food restaurants for lowering your blood pressure. It is about trading big bowls of ice cream to avoid diabetes. It is about trading smaller portions for smaller pants. It is about trading large bags of chips to lower your risk of a heart attack. It is about trading fatty foods for feeling better and having more energy. Weight loss is about trade offs. What you are ultimately trading for is a longer and healthier life.

    Make the right decision and make the trade offs.

    When Will You Start Losing Weight?

    Since more than half of Americans are overweight or obese, the question I want to ask you is, when will you start losing weight? I have the answer. When you have a strong enough reason to. When it is more painful to be overweight than it is to lose the weight. When you realize that losing weight is not a scary or painful event. When this happens, you will be ready and willing to shed the weight. When this happens, you will actually start dropping the weight. That is because at this point you will do what it takes to make it happen.

    Losing weight is as painful or as fun as you make it. Therefore, make it a game. Have fun with it. Get rid of your excuses to lose weight. Remember, you are the only one that can do it, no one else. Challenge yourself, have fun, and get it done.
