Your Friends Can Determine Your Weight

Make Friends with Health-Minded People to Lose Weight

Your friends can help determine your weight. What do I mean by that? Quite simply, if your friends are health-minded, you will probably become health minded. If they aren’t, it will be easy for you not to be.

Let’s face it, your friends help pick your activities. They will help select where you eat when you go out. They will order healthy food making it awkward for you to order something unhealthy. They will pick many activities that require physical activity.

If you hang around overweight people, the food will tend to be unhealthy and the activities will be less physical, probably causing you to gain weight.

Now, I am not telling you to dump all your overweight friends. What I am saying is that you may want to add a few health-minded friends to your list.

I also wanted to make you aware that most people don’t realize how their friends influence their habits and behaviors. The more you can be around people who care about their health and fitness, the more likely you are to have it be a priority in your own life.

How to Get More Activity To Lose Weight

Tuesday, January 10th, 2012

If you want to lose weight, it is a good idea to have both aerobic exercise and weight training in your exercise routine.

  • Select a time and place
  • Exercise requires time. It requires that you make your workout a priority. Therefore, you need to plan where, when and how much you are going to exercise.

  • Start out, slow and build up.
  • If you are new to exercising, or you have not exercised in a while, it is important that you don’t over do it. Start out, slow and build up your time and intensity.

  • Choose something fun that works for you.
  • It is important that you do an exercise activity that you enjoy. I love to run and weight train. My wife loves to read her Kindle while using the elliptical. Find something and do it!

  • Make 30 Minutes to an hour your goal
  • It is important to exercise 30 minutes to an hour, four to five days a week. Make it your goal.

  • Record your progress
  • If this helps you, it may be a good idea to track both what you do and your results. Track calories in a weight loss journal, keep track of exercises on a chart, and write down your weight daily on a calendar. Is this necessary? No it is not. However, many people find this to be useful in their weight loss and fitness endeavor.

If you want to lose weight it is a good idea to add more physical activity into your daily routine.

Exercise Tip – Zone Out When Exercising

    Tuesday, November 16th, 2010

    Make Exercise Go By Faster
When I exercise, I almost always try to get to the point that I zone out. This makes the time go by faster. This is why people exercise to their favorite music. Listening to music stimulates your mind and takes it off of the physical activity. That’s the secret to making “exercise time” go by fast. If that works for you, great keep doing it. Another way is to use that time as alone time. Use that time to think. I rarely if ever listen to music when I exercise. I use that time to think. I use that time to resolve issues. I use that time to plan. During a long run a couple of years ago, I came up with the idea for my soon to be released weight loss book. Therefore, you can use your exercise time also as, “me time.”

Consequently, if you are focusing on what your body is doing, your workout is going to feel like it is dragging on. Therefore, if you want your workout to fly by, then zone out when exercising.
