How to Handle Snacking to Lose Weight

When I was overweight, I snacked differently than I do now. Back then I ate three snacks every night. I ate ice cream and two types of chips, all while I was watching TV.

Today things are different, now that I am thin. Do I snack? Of course, I do. However, I do it differently. I eat one snack. Sometimes it is a healthy snack, grapes, watermelon, pineapple, Triscuts and cheese, or nuts. Sometimes it is ice cream or chips. Whatever the snack, I only have one, and I am careful of my portion size.

I lost 50 pounds in four months and have kept it off for over six years, so I can say with confidence, that you can snack and still lose weight. You just need to pay attention to your portion sizes and mix it with some healthy snacks, and you will be on your way to losing weight.

Healthy Eating Tips to Lose Weight

You can eat healthier and have a better chance of losing weight if you can do a few of the following things:
• Reduce your sugar intake.
• Reduce your fast food intake.
• Reduce your portion sizes.
• If you are a parent don’t eat your kids’ food along with your own.
• Eat a healthy snack between meals or you might overeat at dinner.
• Eat slower
• Eat everything in moderation.
• Eat more fiber
Therefore, if you want to lose weight, start eating a little healthier.

Lose Weight Without Being on the Diet of the Week

The best diet is no diet at all. It is a new way of life that gives you balance in your life that you can live with from this point forward.
If you want to lose weight, you should first talk with your doctor about identifying your optimum weight. Futhermore, ask your doctor the number of dalily calories you should intake so that you can lose weight. This is because losing weight requires that you eat fewer calories than you burn.

Below are some tips that can help:
• Eat a well balanced variety of foods like lean protein; whole grains, fruits, and vegetables;
• Watch your portion sizes. If you must have seconds make it vegtables.
• Exercise at least 20-60 minutes daily.
• Reduce your junk food intake.
• Eat smaller meals more frequently. Five to six meals per day may work the best. It is just hard to maintain the schedule.
• If you like to eat a lot make it mainly salad and a super serving of green beans, broccoli, cabbage, kale, or other low calorie vegetable.
• Make your snack berries, grapes, nuts.
• Stay away from “empty calories” like sugarysodas and fruit drinks

If you can adhere to the few weight loss tips above, you will lose weight and keep it off.

Simple Ways to Reduce Calories and Lose Weight

Reduce Your Portion Sizes
The easiest way to reduce calories is to cut the size of your portions.

Reduce Sugary and Alcoholic Drinks
Calories from sugary and alcoholic drinks are usually calories that go unnoticed.

Reduce Your Intake of Sugary snacks and Chips
I never tell people not to eat sugary snacks or chips. However, let’s talk moderation. If you eat them in moderation, and have balance in your life, you can eat them in reduced portions.

Skip Surgery Cereals

I think having cereal in the morning is fine. When I was in the weight loss process (and still today), I switched between eggs and Special K for breakfast. Therefore, you can have cereal for breakfast, just make sure it is not a sugary cereal if you want to lose weight and keep it off.

Avoid Frying When Possible
Instead of frying, you might want to grill, roast, or boil your food. Remember this, the way you cook food can alter the number of calories it contains.

Choose Fresh Food Rather than Processed Food
Freshly prepared foods usually have fewer calories than processed foods because they usually contain lots of carbs, and sugars. Processed foods usually also contain a lot more sodium, which in excess is bad for your blood pressure.

Remove most of the skin of the chicken and the fat from meat
Chicken skin and fat on your steak may taste good but can add extra unneeded calories. I say remove most of it because if you really like it, don’t deprive yourself, leave a little on. Just eat a little, not all of it.

Do you overindulge / overeat on the weekends?

Researchers have found out that most people don’t know that they eat more on weekends especially on Saturdays. On Saturday it was found that people tend to ingest more fat.

The solution is simple, to battle overeating on the weekends you need to pay attention to your portion sizes. You also need to weigh yourself daily and watch your alcohol intake, which provides empty calories and lowers your food inhibitions.

I always say that losing weight is all about changing your thinking. One of the things you need to change is how you think about the portions you eat. We as Americans are used to super-sizing everything we eat. There are even televisions shows about it. What you need to do is to learn how to right-size your meals so that you can lose the weight you want to lose.

To assist you try the following:
• Use smaller plates and glasses to downsize your portions.
• Split restaurant servings in half before you start eating and have it packed away.
• Make two meals out of one
• Portion out snack servings instead of eating them directly from the container

If you can change your thinking about how you handle your portions, you will be on your way to losing the weight you want to lose.
