Do You Really Want to Lose Weight?

Everyday people tell me that they want to lose weight. However, after talking to them, I realize that the desire is not there.

If we want to lose weight, we need to have a very strong desire to do it. Where do we get our desire? We get our desire from our motivation. Our motivation is the foundation of our desire. Low motivation translates into a low desire. Strong motivation translates into a strong desire. Short term motivation translates into short term desire.

How do we get our motivation and therefore, our desire to lose weight? We get our motivation from within. We need to want to lose weight for a very intense reason. This reason needs to be so strong that it drives us through the ups and downs. Our reason needs to be so strong that nothing will stop us from achieving our goal weight.

When you can find your reason, you will find weight-loss success. What is your reason? Find it and let’s get started.

The Pursuit of Becoming Thinner

Become Thinner

Are you scared to lose weight? Are you constantly jumping to the diet of the week just so that you have something to talk to your friends about? Are you a career dieter? Are you always on the pursuit of becoming thinner with little results? If this is you, there is hope. The first thing that you need to do is to answer a few tough questions. Why do you want to lose weight? Why haven’t you been able to lose it?

You need to answer these honestly and without excuses. Why hasn’t jumping from diet to diet been working? Is it that you are chasing the magic pill to lose weight? Are you willing to lose weight only if it is easy? Let’s be honest now.

Losing weight is work. Losing weight takes trade offs. However, it is worth it. Never look at losing weight as hard. Look at it as a fun challenge. Look at it as a challenge that you will win. Forget the easy diet because there isn’t one. Get your head in the game and find the right balance between healthy foods and your favorite comfort foods, and you will lose weight.

Make the decision to pursuit losing weight once and let’s get it done.

Enjoy Your Food and Lose Weight

There is a myth that you must eat bad tasting foods if you want to lose weight. There is also a myth that you need to starve yourself if you want to lose weight. These are far from the truth. The truth is that you have to eat differently. The truth is that you need to add some healthy foods to your food intake. However, it does not have to taste bad. There is something revolutionary call spices (lol). Spices can do wonders to add flavor to healthy foods. Imagine good-tasting food that is good for you. The key is to use spices correctly. Find recipes that are healthy and flavorful. I am sure that you can find many on the Internet.

If you have some foods that you absolutely don’t want to give up, then don’t. Just reduce your portion sizes when eating them. This will make you feel better about making other healthier choices.

You can enjoy food and still lose weight. You just have to be smart about it and be mindful of how you do it.

Weight Loss Action Required

One of the keys to losing weight is positive action. The first positive action in the weight loss process is to start. This may sound simple but for many people, it is the hardest. However, it is required if we want to lose weight. It also means taking positive actions daily towards our weight loss goal. This is because negative actions, including inaction will result in negative results (weight gain or staying overweight).

What does positive mean? Positive action can mean:

  • Exercising daily
  • Watching your portion sizes
  • Eating healthier snacks
  • Becoming more active
  • If we can take daily positive actions towards our weight loss goal, we will get positive weight loss results. If we take negative weight loss action, we will have negative weight loss results. It is a choice, and it is our choice. Make the wise choice. We can do it. Let’s get it done.

    Is Your But is Keeping You From Losing Weight?

    Everyday I hear the words, “I would like to lose weight BUT…” In other words, are your excuses keeping you from losing weight?

    Over the years, I have heard more excuses of why people can’t lower their weight than I have heard reasons to lose weight. Every overweight person seems to have an arsenal of excuses to tell people. What does that tell me? It tells me that they really don’t want to lose weight. However, they don’t want to tell anyone that. I believe that they feel that losing weight will be extremely painful and like most people, they don’t want to do what is painful.

    What they don’t realize is that they are making losing weight painful with their attitude. Losing weight is as painful or painless as you make it. It is all about your attitude towards it. If you feel that losing weight is tough, and that you have to make major sacrifices to do it, you will not succeed in the long term. If you look forward to the results that losing weight will give you, you will succeed. Your attitude WILL determine your results. Let me put it in simple terms, “bad attitude, bad results. Good attitude, good results.” Change your attitude and your results will change. That should say it all.

    Fat Friends Can Keep You Fat – Weight Loss Strategy

    Your friends can keep you fat. Think about it. If you hang around overweight people, your activities are probably centered around eating and or drinking. Your activities are probably centered around non-active activities like sitting. If you want to lose weight, you may want to start hanging around people that are thinner and fitter. You may want to do activities with them like, going for walks, riding your bike, join a yoga or exercise class with them. This will get and keep you thinner and fitter.

    Now, I am not telling you to dump your overweight friends. I am saying that you need to increase your activity level if you want to lower our weight. If your current friends aren’t willing to do change some of the activities you are doing with them, then you will need to make friends with people that do. If your current friends aren’t concerned about their health, then you need to start hanging out with people that are.

    Additionally, I have found that misery loves company. If your overweight friends are like mine, they will either intentionally or unintentionally try to derail your weight loss. It is common for overweight friends and family to try to derail your weight loss. There are many reasons for this that are outside the scope of this article. However, if you want to lose weight, you will need to deal with this. Ignore your friend’s comments like.

  • You are too thin.
  • You look terrible. You need to gain some weight back.
  • You look sick.
  • Ask your doctor what a good weight range for you is, and then stay in that range. If you are in that range, stay in that range, and ignore everyone’s comments.

    Remember that your doctor knows more than your friends about your health. Listen to your doctor and ignore your friends. Eventually, your friends and family will get used to the thinner you, and you won’t have to deal with the harassment.

    You can do it!!!

    Quit Doing These Things If You Want to Lose Weight

    Do you think that you can’t lose weight? Does it feel like all of your weight loss efforts cause you to weight gain? If you want to lose weight, find out which common weight loss mistakes might be preventing you from getting the weight loss results that you desire, then quit doing them.

    Quit Dieting

    Don’t diet, because diets just don’t work. If you want to lose weight and keep it off you need to change your mindset. I did a previous post that talks about this – Change to lose weight. I even wrote a book about it (see below).

    Quit using excuses.

    One of the most common excuses I hear is that “I don’t have enough time.” If you want to lose weight, you have to find time for exercising and other physical activities.

    Quit underestimating the amount of food you eat.

    Do you pay attention to all the food you eat during the day? 30 -calorie bites during the day can really add up. Pay attention to snacks and what you eat while you are cooking.

    Quit thinking that all healthy foods will help you lose weight.

    Healthy food does not mean low calorie food. There are health benefits to eating healthy foods. However, if you eat too much, it may cause you to gain weight.

    Quit sitting around

    You need to move it to lose it. Sitting around won’t cause you to lose weight. Get active and stay active.

    Quit thinking that your activity is more than it really is.

    Working out should not include standing around and talking to people at the gym. I hear it all the time. People say, “I was at the gym for two hours yesterday.” The problem is that they spent an hour and a half standing around talking to people. That’s not exercising.

    Quit thinking that you can eat more because you exercise.

    Just because you are exercising, that does not mean that you can eat more.

    Quit thinking you deserve big results fast with little effort.

    Don’t get frustrated, focus on any accomplishments as you lose weight. Look for things to be proud of in every step of the weight loss process.

    Great Weight-Loss Foods To Eat

    Want to lose weight? Try increasing your fiber intake. It is a good way to help attain you weight-loss goal.
    Below are a few high-fiber foods that can help you in the weight-loss process.

    Apples

    This is my favorite. I ate a lot (and still do) of apples when I was in the weight-loss process.

    Green Beans

    I am not a green bean fan. However, they are high in fiber and vitamin C.

    Sweet Potatoes

    Sweet potatoes are high in fiber and packed with vitamin A. vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, iron, magnesium, beta-carotene and more…

    Raspberries

    Raspberries are a good source of fiber. It also is a good source of vitamin C.

    Strawberries

    Strawberries are a good source of fiber and great source of vitamin C.

    Chickpeas

    Chickpeas are a great source fiber and a good source of vitamin B6.

    Pumpkin

    Pumpkin is a good source of fiber along with being a good source of vitamin C, E, potassium and a great source of vitamin A.

    If you eat more fiber, you should start to see better weight-loss results.

    What Foods Help You Lose Weight?

    What are the foods that can help with weight loss?
    Not all foods are made alike. Not all foods burn calories the same.

    Below are some of the foods that you should be eating if you want to lose weight:

  • Eat Low-Fat Plain Yogurt
  • Low-fat plain yogurt is a good source of calcium and protein.

  • Eat Omega-3 Fish
  • Foods like salmon, contain omega-3 fatty acids, which help burn calories. They are also rich in protein.

  • Eat Soy Foods
  • Soy foods like tofu have protein and help to raise your metabolism and lower your body fat.

  • Poultry
  • Poultry one of the best fat-burning foods because of its protein levels.

  • Eggs
  • Eggs are a great source of protein to help you burn fat.

  • Vinegar
  • Vinegar contains acid that helps your body break down fat. I used to use lots of vinegar on my salads when I was in the weight loss process.

  • Eat Citrus Fruits
  • Citrus fruits can help improve your insulin levels, which can help cut your appetite.

  • Eat Chili Peppers
  • Eat chili peppers, the hotter the pepper the better.

  • Eat Fruits and Vegetables
  • Eating more fruits and vegetables can help burn more fat.

  • Eat More Whole Grains
  • Whole grains can help keep insulin levels low, which can help you lose weight.

    Therefore, if you want to lose weight, eat more of the above foods that help you with your weight-loss goals.

    How to Get More Activity To Lose Weight

    If you want to lose weight, it is a good idea to have both aerobic exercise and weight training in your exercise routine.

  • Select a time and place
  • Exercise requires time. It requires that you make your workout a priority. Therefore, you need to plan where, when and how much you are going to exercise.

  • Start out, slow and build up.
  • If you are new to exercising, or you have not exercised in a while, it is important that you don’t over do it. Start out, slow and build up your time and intensity.

  • Choose something fun that works for you.
  • It is important that you do an exercise activity that you enjoy. I love to run and weight train. My wife loves to read her Kindle while using the elliptical. Find something and do it!

  • Make 30 Minutes to an hour your goal
  • It is important to exercise 30 minutes to an hour, four to five days a week. Make it your goal.

  • Record your progress
  • If this helps you, it may be a good idea to track both what you do and your results. Track calories in a weight loss journal, keep track of exercises on a chart, and write down your weight daily on a calendar. Is this necessary? No it is not. However, many people find this to be useful in their weight loss and fitness endeavor.

    If you want to lose weight it is a good idea to add more physical activity into your daily routine.
