Weight Loss By Another Name

Friday, September 5th, 2014

Weight loss by any other name will still result in a thinner you. I hear so-called weight loss experts say to me. “I never use the words weight loss. I use weight management.” I like to respond that you lose the weight first then you manage your new weight. You say 12, I say a dozen. The results are the same.

However, I know why they do it and enjoy yanking their chains anyway. The reason they do it is because of the emotions that are attached to weight loss. Whenever I mention the words’ weight loss, I see, fear. It makes people feel uneasy. That is actually good. That is because change of any kind is uneasy for people, and they fear it.

However, weight loss does not have to be painful. Weight loss does not have to be scary. It is made that way by people that don’t want to lose weight, so they make excuse, and turn weight loss into the big bad wolf.

Over the years, I have helped many people lose weight that afterwards have said that losing weight is not that bad. Weight loss is not scary, don’t make it that way. It is not the ghost in your basement. Call it what you want, let’s start the process, let’s get the weight off, and let’s keep it off for a lifetime.

Long Term Thinking Equals Long Term Weight Loss

Long Term Weight Loss

If we want to lose weight and keep it off, we will need to have long-term thinking. Long-term thinking is about learning how to eat for the long term. It is not about saying that, “I will do this until I lose weight then I will do something else.” Although most people don’t realize it, this means that they plan on going back to the eating that caused them to become overweight. When we have long-term thinking we will start eating for the long term. We will start eating the way we want to eat from this day forward so that it becomes a habit.

Long-term thinking, means finding exercises that we enjoy, so that we will be willing to do them long term.

Long-term thinking means developing long-term motivation. It means developing motivation that will last a lifetime, just not for an event in the future.

When we develop long-term thinking, we develop thin habits that will last a lifetime.

The Weight Loss Magical Moment

Weight loss Magical Moment

You decide to lose weight. You start to exercise. You start eating healthier. The weight starts to melt off. You look at yourself in the mirror and see yourself changing. A smile comes across your face. That is the magical moment. It is the moment that you know you can do it. It is the feeling of joy that happens when you see that what you are doing is actually working. There is the moment that you know that you will succeed at losing weight.

This is the moment that you are celebrating a victory. This is the moment to savor. It is also the moment of caution. It is a moment to remember what you did to get to where you are at. It is also the moment to remember the past mistakes and obstacles so you don’t revert back. It is a moment that you know that you can reach your weight-loss goals. However, it is a moment to realize that it is easy to fall back into old habits.

When this time comes that you experience that magical moment, enjoy it, celebrate it, and continue to move forward.

Are You Scared to Lose Weight? : Weight Loss Fear

Are You Scared to Lose Weight? : Weight Loss Fear

Growing up most of us have been programmed to fear failure. What happened when we made a mistake in school? We got an “F.”

What happened when we made a mistake at work? The fear of failure comes from the fear of what will happen if we fail. So it is better not to go after weight loss than to fail. This is the wrong attitude. We should not fear weight loss failure. We should fear not trying to lose weight at all. We should also fear procrastination. Those are the enemies of weight loss. Those are the enemies of poor health.

If we attempt to lose weight, we have a chance to lose it. It is when we do nothing that we actually fail because we will remain the same weight. However, as we age that extra weight will have a multiplying effect on our health, so that we actually don’t remain the same, we go backwards.

A man in his 70’s told me that he exercised daily because he is fighting old age with everything he has. We need to have this attitude if we want a healthy future. We should not fear losing weight. We should fear what will happen if we don’t. We should fear not doing anything to get our weight down. We should fear staying the same weight.

Let’s get rid of the fear of losing weight. Let’s change our attitude and let’s get it done.

You Can Lose Weight

You Can Lose Weight

I always say that anyone can lose weight if they want to. They just need to want to. It is the strength of your desire to lose weight that will either force you to lose weight or cause you to quit. The strength of your desire is based the importance you place on your reason for doing it. If the reason you want to lose weight gets you emotionally charged up, you will probably succeed at losing weight. If it is a weak reason, you probably will not lose weight. If you want to lose weight for an event, there is a good chance that after the event, you will gain the weight back.

You can lose weight with the right motivation. You can lose weight with a strong desire to do it. You can lose weight!

Let’s think about what you truly want out of life. Would it were easier to get what we want if we were thinner? If the answer is yes, then let’s lose some weight. Let’s get started and let’s get it done.

Do You Really Want to Lose Weight?

Friday, January 3rd, 2014

Everyday people tell me that they want to lose weight. However, after talking to them, I realize that the desire is not there.

If we want to lose weight, we need to have a very strong desire to do it. Where do we get our desire? We get our desire from our motivation. Our motivation is the foundation of our desire. Low motivation translates into a low desire. Strong motivation translates into a strong desire. Short term motivation translates into short term desire.

How do we get our motivation and therefore, our desire to lose weight? We get our motivation from within. We need to want to lose weight for a very intense reason. This reason needs to be so strong that it drives us through the ups and downs. Our reason needs to be so strong that nothing will stop us from achieving our goal weight.

When you can find your reason, you will find weight-loss success. What is your reason? Find it and let’s get started.

Weight Loss – It Does Not Matter What You Call It. The End Result Is The Same

    Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

It is funny that there are many terms we give to the act of losing weight. Yes, they may have a slight difference in meaning; however, the result is the same. You weigh less. Here are a few that come to mind.

  • Lose weight
  • Trim down
  • Trim pounds
  • Slim down
  • Lose pounds
  • Get leaner
  • Get trimmer
  • Get slimmer
  • Get skinny
  • Get thinner
  • Take the weight off
  • Take the pounds off
  • Take the fat off
  • Lose fat
  • Lose that belly
  • Lower weight
  • Manage weight
  • Control weight
  • Burn fat
  • Burn weight
  • Melt fat
  • Melt pounds
  • Get rid of the weight
  • Weight reduction
  • As you can see there are many terms (and more I did not list) to describe basically the same thing (yes there are small differences between them). However, there is only one way to achieve them. Take in fewer calories than you burn. So let’s start today.

Pay Attention to What You Drink to Lose Weight

    Friday, August 17th, 2012

There are two different ways to take in calories. The two ways are through the food you eat and what you drink. When I was in the weight-loss process, and even today, I was cautious of what I drank.

I made the decision not to drink sugary drinks. I made the decision not to drink fruit juices. I made the decision to limit my alcoholic drink intake to one to two a week.

This decision among others helped me lose 50 pounds in four months and keep it off. What do I drink you may be asking? I drink lots of water, and an occasional Diet Coke. I also drink a fitness drink (they come in a variety of flavors and mix with water). Each are 10 calories and loaded with vitamin B.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, make sure that you watch what you drink.

Healthy Protein Snacks to Help You Lose Weight

    Wednesday, August 15th, 2012

If you are in the weight-loss process, there is a good chance that you are not getting enough protein. Below are a few protein snacks that can help give you the protein you may need.

    Cheese

I love cheese. Cheese is a great snack. It is high in protein. The only advice I will give you about cheese is to watch your portion sizes.

    Eggs

Eggs are high in protein and make a great snack. Don’t fry them. Either poach them or hard boil them.

    Low-fat milk

Low-fat milk is good protein snack. Once again, be cautious of your portion size.

    Protein bars

Protein bars are great snack. Pay attention to the calories and other ingredients to make sure you’re getting what you think you are.

    Nuts

I love nuts. I love all kinds of nuts. Nuts are my snack of choice. However, like all snacks watch your portion size.

If you exercise and are losing weight, there is a good chance that you are not getting enough protein. Protein is important to weight loss. Therefore, you should make sure that you’re getting enough.

The above are a few of the many protein snacks to choose from.
